yeah, I wonder. And what about the styling cues? what will be different about the c6 from the c5 in the body? All the "spy shots" ive seen look pretty much the same. Maybe thats because all the cars have full covers on them. :icon16: :bananasmi

serious some of the "concepts" ive seen are ugly as hell and some look real good i just really dont like the design (in red) that was on the front of i think motor trend, it is ugly it looks like every other car of its time. i hope the keep it like the c5 but change some aspects of it. they have aready designed a beautiful car now they can update the design and it will be perfect. and as for performance wise who the hell knows. all that im sure of is that the chassis is on the caddi xlr.

There is a big emphasis on it having fixed headlights but nothing has been confirmed, personally I don't like that idea.

All of the following information is stuff that I have heard directly from the G.M. Vice President and Dave Hill, the Corvette Chief engineer. I was at a Corvette Convention and they were there speaking...I heard it with my own two ears :)
-6+Liter V8 making 500hp
-fixed headlights
-hydroformed aluminum frame rails
-target weight for the base coupe is around 3100lbs
-1.1Gs of lateral acceleration
I recently read an interview with Bob Lutz where he said that the new vette would be a BETTER performer than the Viper and the Ford GT. This sort of erased any suspicions I had about what the VP and Hill had said. The only thing is that I don't know if the power and performance estimates were for the base car or the Z06...I'm guessing Z06.

There was a picture in the November 2003 Car and Driver (page 34 if you want to look it up) of the new C6's headlamps shown at an industry conference where Gary Cowger (president of GM North America) was speaking, and they're definately fixed. To me they strike a resemblance to current Ferrari styling, which is fine with me. (They'll obviously reduce the nighttime drag coefficient, too, over the last many generations of the 'Vette.)
As for power estimates, everywhere that I've seen anything about the C6, GM has said it's going to be in the 500-hp range. I think that's actually going to be the base model engine, because Cadillac wants to build a 700+hp STS sometime in the next few years. GM company policy, however, is that no GM production car out-muscles the Corvette, so if Cadillac is really serious about a 700 hp descendant of the Seville, then GM must also be serious about a stock 'Vette with over 700 ponies . Wow.
That would definately out-gun the Viper and the GT. (Especially if they made it AWD...)

brought back the center exhaust? Its like that on the C5. The Camaro is replicated the Vette, not the other way around! If they change the exhuast in any way, it should be SIDE PIPES!

but if they do steal the viper headlamps and the side pipes(supposing) then they would steal alot of the viper's ideas (also if its 500bhp :))

Have any of you guys heard of the variable valve timming being incorporated into the C6? I was just curious if that is actually going to happen. I've seen hp quotes for 425hp in motortrend and it would make sense to be pushing that with vvt (verses the older setup). That also brings me to the my next question. Could this possibly mean that the new corvette is in design for a ohc engine? You could still do variable valve timming with a ohv, but it requires a lot more tunning than an ohc engine. What do you guys think?

Supposedly the Vette that will take on the new Ford GT is going to be a twin-turbo people are calling the ZL1.............not the Z06.
And, GM is going to need it as not only has the Ford GT already been dynoing waaaay north of the as-advertised 500hp rating, Ford is working on a higher hp version GT to give the new Lightning and next Cobra more room to breath hp wise without stealing any of the GT's thunder. (Think well above 600hp...more like 700 as GT's are currently dynoing in the 600hp at the crank range apparently)
If GM is serious about an uber-Vette to compete with the GT I can believe the turbo bit, because there is just no way they are gonna do it against an even stronger GT with a naturally aspirated variation of the new small block they are building for the C6. Lutz doesn't like to show up to a party with too few hp so I would say the turbo theory has some legs.
Without a lot more cubes and a serious multi-valve head (Like DOHC and 4-5 valves) there is just no way a naturally aspirated engine is going to match that kinda horsepower and even then it wouldn't have a big/fat torque curve like the GT. If you made the hp, it would be a revver and you would be lacking the low end torque.
Three valves per cylinder and 7 liters or not, it isn't gonna happen with today's technology in a factory doable/streetable design against a blower and DOHC's. You would need more like ten liters. No shame or insult intended though, as Ford is using a blower to get there with the GT. So, if GM does decide to compete with the GT look for turbos IMO.
. Also, I saw a spy shot of the C6, and it is a thousand times better looking than the C5. I didn't expect to like the fixed lights, but they look great.
And before someone mentions there brothers 2000hp naturally aspirated 3 second 1/4 mile Hemi Cuda.....please remember I am referring to factory doable/buildable engines here. Pass drive by standards, pass emissions standards, run for more than five minutes at a time.....

Base C6:
6.0L V8 with 400hp
Z06:
6.4L V8 with 500hp (3-valve heads)
ZL1:
Unknown displacement, unknown engine configuration, and unknown power adders.
Best guess is that it will be a 6.4L or 7.0L V8 TT with 3-valve heads pushing 600+hp.
I agree with syr74, the ZL1 will have to be an absolute monster if it wants to touch the Ford GT. A future Car & Driver issue will show the GT to trap at 128 in the 1/4 mile and will do 0-150 in 16.9 seconds. For example, Porsche's specs for the GT2 state 0-150 as 20 seconds for the GT2. The Ford GT is literally going to be the fastest car one can buy other than the Carrera GT or Enzo. The new GT is arguably faster than the Saleen S7 (which is powered by a Ford built 7.0L V8).
