Forester AWD a better idea??

I have always been a little peeved at the subaru awd. It lets front wheel slip (automatic trans) before electrically enganging clutch to rear wheels--often with a noticeable KLUNK. Have read new sports models have electric override which will make true 4wd on demand for severe conditions. Am wondering if I can splice in a switch which will do the same thing for my 2000 Forester. Am familiar with drawbacks--crabbing, drive train strain and not using on dry pavement (just like all true 4wd). Subaru says, of course, don't do it--but this would help me a lot in glare ice and heavy snow where I live in Missouri Ozarks. Am wondering if computer will scream at me for trying it??

Don't joke about that audible 'klunk', it's annoying!

What model Forester do you have?
I have a 2001 Forester S with the limited slip rear diff, unless you really hit the gas on wet pavement, it's difficult to get it to throw all the energy to the back wheels and do what you describe.
