Hey All, I need you all to help me decide what car I shoud buy for my first car. I haven't got much knowledge of cars so plz fill me in...
I really like 1995 Nissan Silvia (s14) and 1993 Nissan Skyline GTS (R32)
at the moment and they are affordable for me in New Zealand.
1995 Nissan Silvia has DOHC engine and 2.0CC
1993 Nissan Skyline has V6 engine and 2.0CC
What's the different between DOHC and V6? And what is better overall?
I think Silvia is V4??? Im not sure but i think that cuz most cars are v4.
Is there much difference in V4 and V6???
I need a car which is reliable, good performance, good front and back foot space. A car it can be good for just driving but also can race every now and then.
So please give me suggestion, information on these 2 cars, Which car shuld i buy for my first car that i will drive for at least 3-5 years.
And fill my empty mind :p THANK YOU

They both have DOHC engnes.DOHC=Dual/double Overhead Camshafts
The Silvia has an Inline 4,and the Skyline has a V6.An Inline has the cylinders arranged in a line, and the V has them arranged in two banks, making a V.The SR20DET(engine in the Silvia) is lighter, but has less power on tap.The Skyline GTS has two engines, depending on the GTS model. It is eitheir an RB20DET,or a RB25DE(One has turbo, one doesn't) will most likey have more power on tap(depending if you have turbo). But the engine weighs moe,and the car,but has more potential for horsepower and has a stronger block.
Things to take into consideration are price, the Skyline engine has 2 more cylinders than the Silvias.SO it will cost more to repair/modify,as compared to the Silvia, which has 2 less cylinders. The Silvia also weighs less, has less displacement, and has a smaller engine. So it is cheaper on gas,but still has plenty of potential for 400hp.
The answer depends on what your looking for,if you aren't worried about spending a little extra, and are going for more straight line speed, and higher horsepower.Skyline is your car.If you want to save a little money, have a lighter and more nimble car,and an engine that has plenty of potential. The Silvia is your choice. Both are real great cars, but the answer depends on your driving style and budget.

To Shiftlock (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=91045): Since you know alot about the Silvia I wanted to ask if you know anything about importing Silvia's (S15's). After what you said about the Silvia's performance I want to get this car even more. What advice do you have on importing Silvia's (S15's) from Japan? Do you have any websties that you could link me to that relate to certain import/export companies? I found one place (J's Garage Export), but I want to know if you know of the cheapest company there is. Thnx in advanced.

My bad....yes it is,thank you for catching me on that.I crossed it with another car topic I read earlier about a conversion that was a V6 engine. The skyline is an inline 6,but you know what a V engine is now,so I guess you learned something.
You can't legally have an S15 for road use,but you can for track.I heard signal auto was willing to sell one of their midly modified S13's off the lot for $10 grand in cash.If their willing to do it,and you can make the trip/get the cash, that would probably be a more affordable.better purchase.

They're illegal? You can't get some kind of permit or something? Ilive in the U.S., just so you know that.

No, it's just that they have some things that ain't up to US car standards. Skylines are the same way. U have to send Skylines to MotorRex in order to use them on the street.

The only thing you could do is get imported for race only. Then you could slap on your plates to the Silvia and drive it late at night. The plates would minimize chances of police giving you any trouble. But if they decide to run your plates, then your in a mess.

in the U.S. imports that are 15 years old don't have to pass emission standards. since it's 2004 you can get an 89 R32 skyline without having it standardized.

that was already corrected, if you read he said he was mistaking for an earlier topic look above before you posted it says, sorry it is a inline 6.
