Ok, I gotta ask what the point of this is. Are you saying that anyone who puts mesh wheels on a 240 fastback with an sr20 is a "ricer"? or maybe anyone who went to the D1? If so thats pretty dumb, mesh wheels are some of the nicest styles out there and the D1 was put together by? you guessed it, Drifters!.
The only thing I can get from that comic thats truthful is the idea that is dumb to use an S13 to make the ultimate drift car.

I sure hope you don't take all the other Garfield cartoons so seriously... also If you look closely, it looks like Garfield has been freezedried.

Buahahah! great post dude.
I think the point of this comic is to get a rise out of him, and other newfounds who take drifting as if its a religion, and dont wanna be seen as "rice".
Oh well, the guys on the 240SX forums loved it.

Newfound? take it as a religion? HA! Drifting and sliding is a way to have some fun at 3am, not a form of spiritual devotion. In fact I take it no where near as serious as most other forms of motorsport such as autocross and hill climbs.
Also, I really don't care what someone sees me as. You can't have any fun in life when your worried about what strangers think.
Back on topic, I can take a joke but I just really don't see any coherency in this supposed joke. What do mesh wheels, an sr20 and the D1 have to do with "riceboys"?

riceboys who, these days, see drifting for the first time, think "yo guys, that's phat. i'm going to take my Civic and be the ultimate drifter, yo!"
the most popular drift car in north america, without question, is the 240SX. the most popular mod, without question, is the SR20. ricers who went to the D1GP in Irwindale Cali. in August will have seen it for the first time, and vowed that they will be the "ultimate phat drifter, yo!" so they go out, buy our precious cars and our precious engines, and smash it into a hill. or they build up the car and use it as a show car and claim they're a drifter.
these guys have no determination, no drive, and the only reason they want to drift is a) because it's the latest fad and b) to look cool in front of their friends. they don't understand how taxing drifting really is, or how much time it takes to even get good at it.
i think the comic is funny, because it's true. but it also makes me sad, because i've wanted a 240SX with SR20 and mesh wheels for over 6 years now, and now that drifting is the new fad, the car is becoming mainstream and my sport and my car are getting exploited by huge companies in order to make money off of the ricers that want to drift.
there ARE some legitimate people coming into drifting these days, but the companies in north america, such as APC, are exploiting it for money and ruining the image. it makes me super-pissed, but i'm not going to let it really get to me. i still love drifting and am still currently looking for the perfect 240SX for me to buy and build up with an SR20DET. i could care less if it's a fad and i could care less how many rice-boys are ruining it, i love it and a couple of idiots aren't going to make me abandon the sport and car that i've loved for years.

The only thing I can get from that comic thats truthful is the idea that is dumb to use an S13 to make the ultimate drift car.
god shutup wanderer, it's a joke in case you couldn't tell.
But I'm with S13 on this, it does kinda make me mad because so many ricers/posers are getting into it and taking what a lot of people have been into for years now and turning it into some sort of fad. It pisses me off when I hear about or see some guy trying to act like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to drifting,
But that's a good one though Dorikin!

ha...
i think it's great...
not the first time i saw it, but since the thread is all about it...
it's true though...
jdm styled anything was the "in thing" last year, and it's the new rice.
drifting, and anything that follows along that route, will take it's place...
i wanted a 240, but i won't buy one now, simply b/c i'd be seen as a poser... though i've known about this stuff for years.
it's like that sig that dori used to have about ricky chu's 240. the drift look, without the drift.
i don't see the drifting phenomena becoming a bad thing, but it's going to explode for a minute, then the ricer's catch on, then it dies out and the diehard guys stick around and make it memorable for what it really is...
you don't see drifting as something to get fanatical about? it's just fun?
drifting is like figure skating. there's no points for speed, you win based on subjective reasoning, not like most other motorsports, which are objective and not opinion based.
it's all about getting noticed, and some people eat/sleep/breathe drifting, just like they do nascar, or f1, or cart, or irl, or ALMS, or...

I think I have been called a poser hmmmmmmmmmm too many times to count. It is fine. I owned a civic and bought a Jetta. There goes the poser. Then I got a 240. There goes the poser.
Whatever! It is the internet. I don't see many people with the same attitude when they meet each other.

"DO YOU" - Do this for you. I guess this is NYC talk. Do it for you. Not for anyone else or what they will think.

He sucked. But too many people who jock his nuts bitched at me, how his car is tyte. Im willing to wager a Civic can drift better than that POS.
2troke, you should pick up some UK car mags. They are honestly the most honest, technologically adept writers out there. Robert Cumberford, who does the design analysis for Automobile magazine is also very good. I would expect so, considering hes a student of Harley Earl, who, IMO was the first in the auto industry to incorporate bling bling lol.

If it were easier to obtain them, I probably would, but the only British car mags widely sold in the U.S. are those about classic cars (and they're overpriced too) And attempting to get anything else is a royal pain in the neck (or else I'd be reading Nostalgic Hero)

It's a shame that the 240SX is on the verge of going the way of the Civic Si coupe. But, it doesn't have to be that way.
My former team-mate Derek, upon noting the increased popularity of SR20DET swaps amongst non-performance minded individuals, decided to investigate other Nissan engine options. What he found was that the RB20DET is oddly cheap and just as easily modified to make power. When I noted that it was not a direct bolt-in, he grinned and said to me "Yeah, great huh? I didn't spend all that time learning to fabricate parts so some ricer could build the same car as me."
Creativity is still an option, guys. Besides, you can always tell a drift car by the broken stuff. :sunglasse

Dorikin, therein lies the beauty of his RB20DET swap. He isn't paying more to have it done, he's doing it himself.
It's sort of one of the god-given rules amongst the Parma, Ohio import guys; You do it yourself, or your friends help you out with it. But you don't pay someone to wrench on your ride.
Fierce independence, even in the face of mechanical incompetence, is our calling card.
(Good thing neither Derek or I are mechanically incompetent, else the whole group would've been hosed)

I understand that, but I also meant, do you need a custom driveshaft, crossmember blah blah blah.

yeah, i don't understand why you're always jockin' on RB20's. it's not like it's a 13B or anything, it won't detonate eventually or anything. and it doesn't make the same hp as an SR, they make 215 i'm pretty sure. sure that's only 10 more then a red-top SR, but every hp counts, right? and hey, it's unique, even though you all know how much i don't care about uniqueness anymore as long as i love the car.

Oh yeah, basically we'll have to gut the whole front end of the car and practically start over, but there's a lot of other things he wanted to do too, so it's going to be worth it. The front suspension was going to have to come apart, a part of the plan was to go to a center lock hub, he saw a set of Wilwood brakes on a Supermodified that he liked better than Brembos. All sorts of stuff.
It's a ton of work, but it's something he wants to try because he can get an RB20 cheap and he's never seen one done.
Basically, my guess is that he'll hunt down yet another 240SX to actually do this to, while driving his current one with it's lightly breathed on KA24.
I can't call him crazy, because a Rover 3.5L V8 swap is in my B's future someday. (and there's a nice one sitting in a 1961 Oldsmobile F85 down the road from me....)

Id rather have a 13B and 3mm apex seals.
Its all about the weight distribution ;)

Its been done before.
Ive seen a 13B into a hachi with my own eyes. Its a great swap, because the engine is so small, you can shove it further back to get a front-midship layout(among cars that have that, are the G35, 350Z, S2000) and get the much coveted 50/50 weight distribution.
Coupled with the S chassis long wheelbase, and youve got a great drift car.

speaking of that lol, Dori or Ike, you remeber LONG time ago someone on 240sx forums posted their F3DS with a SR20DET and custom manifold with the tubo in front of the engine via Grand National style lol.......
13b would be novelty in a 240sx, but its almost like a Turbo II in looks and all wouldn't see much of the point. Id like to see a 2jz in a S13. I think thats a good motor to swap in USDM cars because the exhaust is on the pass. side and you have less clearance issues, master cylinder heating.... etc.
also the rb20 rocks!!

closest i've seen is Dart Izumi Jr's D1 S14 with the 1JZ in it...it's pretty damn insane, though.

I agree with the lack of real benefits one would see after doing a rotary swap into an S13.
HOWEVER!
Rotaries are becoming the hot swap item for us classic British sportscar guys. MG Midget, Triumph Spitfire, Austin-Healey Sprite and other such small under 1500cc sports cars are now receiving Mazda 13B's because of their small size and robust power. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine has a 13B powered Triumph Spitfire as one of their longest running project cars.
If I were to find a Spitfire GT-6 for a reasonable amount of money with a blown engine, I'd do this swap myself.

I have an article about a Subaru 360 that was converted to using a 200hp mazda 13b rotary engine, the weight ratio is about 5lbs per hp! The car is actually mid engined now, and it uses a transmission from a Subaru leone to get power to the rear wheels. Unfortunately, the car isn't street legal because there is no firewall between the engine and the drivers compartment (in fact, the area that would normally be the rear passengers seat is filled with engine) Quite a conversion! It proved to be far too fast for the original brakes.

The FC has a very short wheelbase, which makes it twitchy. Also the suspensionm must be heavily modified to drift the car. I cant remember exactly what, but I know some arms or rods must be moved further back.
The S13 has a looong wheelbase, and having a roatry would equal a 50.50 blanance, and a long wheelbase, so you can control the drift better.

actually i think it would make the front end too light since the engine is so small...the car has almost perfect dist. with the SR i think, so a much lighter 13B would screw that up.

The worst motor that anyone can ever put in an S13 would have to be the 1JZ-GTE. That would just be gay. real gay.
