I know the reputation of Jim Wolf, that's about all. I read up on cams in general since I didn't know alot. I learned that cams by themselves don't do much, but with mixed with other mods (CAI, catback, headers, etc) the gain can be stout. Cams can have a high gain in a specific power band range or a broad range. It depends on how they're made. I requested info on these a few days ago, nothing yet. I would love a boost in the low to mid range of the power band; say 1500 - 4000rpm.

Here's what I found out:
The cam shafts are $1100 for all four. If the car is still within factory specs, there is no need for anything else. But there is an optional Valve Spring kit for $288. In the catalog, the dyno shows an 8hp gain with no other mods. However, Ben at Jim Wolf's shop indicated a total gain of 10-15hp, depending on what other mods the car has. According to Ben, the cams will match the cars natural power curve. So if the power kicks in at 2700rpm, that will not change.
Opinion: By itself, this seems like a lot of work for such a modest gain. But matched with an better air intake and exhaust, it could a 30hp total gain.

this is just a guess, but the new cams probably make your valves open more which after prolonged time will wear the spring out so it won't close flush, i'll bet in the new valve spring kits, the springs have more length to them so they car spring back to full closure and not leak out air.
and i doubt it matters what you do first, cams or headers. if you wanna see a sick gain from the cams do the headers first, and vice versa. those mods will mutualy help each other.
i really reall really want the tstillen headers for my car(a supposed FWHP gain of 25+ hp) but i have a warranty to worry about. my plan is headers, probably cams, then maybe an exhaust, ecu remapping and rims tints and drop. cat-back+y pipe on my 4th gen made an awful lot of noise, almost unbearable. so i might not get the exhaust

Again, personal opinion. I would change out the springs if for no other reason the amount of work that goes into pulling and scraping valve cover gaskets. I would not want to do it twice. Then, it's brand new larger cams on 6-8 year old springs. In my mind it's better safe than sorry.
