Yeah what drift king said. Also search on google, there is a lot of sites they list all the types of drifts and even teach you how to do them. I highly recommend starting in a big open parking lot.
-Also, check out the drifting.com forums, they got a lot of information.

a) don't even expect to learn "how to drift" on the internet. that's like asking how to draw when you're blind. won't do shit. the only, yes ONLY, way to learn how is to go out there and try. sure, you can read some techniques but don't expect to learn everything by just reading a bunch of internet pages.
b) you will go out there for the first time, and you WILL suck. it's not a question. you WILL. drifting takes YEARS of hard, constant practise to even get semi-good at it. don't expect to go out there and do hand-out-the-window D1 drifts, because it won't happen for years. the D1 guys all have 10+ years under their belts.
c) if you're only getting into drifting because "it looks really cool", then don't bother. drifting is a HARD sport. the pros make it look easy, but that's because they have experience. if you are only getting into drifting to impress your friends and look "phat", then just go find something else to take up your time. drifting takes a TON of skill, LOTS of concentration, determination, will power and many many other things. if you're not willing to give 100%, then just leave. it's like trying to make a cake without the main ingredient. it just won't work. if you leave out one of those things, then you'll never be good at it, and usually people who are in it just to LOOK good don't bother putting any effort into learning, so they usually suck and then give up. i personally don't care if i look cool while drifting, i do it because i want to teach myself the skills, and i do it for the adrenaline rush. i could care less what other people think of me.
d) drifting also is expensive. you WILL crash at least once. it's another inevitability. just think about it. you're hurdling a car SIDEWAYS around a corner. for the first while, while you're picking up the basic skills, you will probably slide out alot, maybe hit a couple of small things. but eventually, every drifter has one larger accident where they have to repair their car. and usually they have at least one small one every time they go out. that's part of the game. don't just think you'll go out and drift effortlessly and your car will always look like a show car, because that's wrong. even the pros crash, it's part of the game, and if you can't accept it, then you may as well not get into it.
e) don't even THINK about drifting on a public road, or i will hunt you down myself and castrate you with rusty garden shears.
so there's my introductory rant. if you still think you want to drift "because it looks really cool", then go right ahead and start learning. but i suggest you think about everything i said, HARD, and think again whether you really have all it takes to get into a sport that's so demanding, mentally, physically, and financially.
good luck whatever route you choose, and remember, i'm not trying to pick on you or scare you off, i'm merely presenting facts to help you make an educated decision.

Dude! Drifting is about having control over your car when it goes sideways, NOT looking cool. Saying I think drifting looks really cool so I want to do it, is like such a NOb thing to say. You won't get any respect from a true drifter if you do it for looks. If you want to understand the fundamentals of drifting then go play Gran turismo 3. It works but, you wont truley understand it fulley untill you do it for real. going sideways in a car is an unnatural feeling so it changes the whole aspect of things. Now that this has been said, go get a rear wheel drive car and try drifting, best of luck to you in doing so. Just remember that Drifters don't want any 2f2f Bastards taging on to the scene.

some of you people are dicks, look what you need to do is like someone said look online at the different techniques then go to an open parking lot and try them all and find which you like best and practice it like crazy who cares if your never as good as the D1 people or if you can even enter some type of contest, just learn how to do it in an open space where you won't kill your car, then when your experienced slowly move onto harder places, but remember slowly or you'll jack your car up and thats never fun, although that is part of drifting and chances are you'll wreck eventually, whether its going into a ditch and knocking off the front bumer or shifting it 2 inches to one side, or hitting a wall or post or tree and destroying your car, just be prepared for what could happen and good luck with it all, but don't try to be a pro in a week, cuz even pros wreck

Instead of having someone waste time describing numerous techniques.I'll just give you a link to the Drift Bible rip.
1)Go download Bitorrent
2)After you have bitorrent, copy and paste this url in your browser
http://www.emptylogic.com/suprnova/torrents/339/bbb18a94464f229ca336883dd1e614a368a505df.torrent
3)Don't say their is an error and the link doesn't work.If this happens, you obviously didn't read step 1
This will be better than any net advice.

I was a fanatic as nissanist some months ago, I litterally destroyed my car because after a week of attemptings well gone I thought to be a D1 drifter, I toke my delta (an AWD car!) and went on a hill climb street with some friends on their own cars. I only learnt to drift using clutch, so I tried it once and it gone well (but I went in the other lane risking a frontal crash with another car, luckily no one was there) I retried on the following corner, but I pushed too much on the accel. and I did a 180° going straight out of the street and hitting a tree with the back of the car and braking my arm, the repairing of the car costed me 2.000 $, and now I must repaint all the car (The paint livery costed me 3000$ before the crash). :banghead: :banghead:
Now I bought a '95 200 sx and I'm tuning it for drifting, but this time no expensive colours or aesthetic kits
