How much is the stock 95 Civic 2dr coupe supposed to weigh? I read somewhere around 3000 pounds. When I went to weigh my car about 3 months ago, it only weighed 23 hundred pounds. Does anyone know anything about this?

Who on earth told you a stock 5th gen 2 dr coupe weighed 3000 lbs? They are crazy or somthihng, don't listen. As for 5th gen civics, the Hatchback is the lightest, as we know. Second is the 4 door sedan, suprisingly. The heaviest (stock) is the 2 dr coupe. This is all relative, though. I mean, it's still a very light car, so even then it's not "heavy." I know integra's weight about 2700 lbs, and a civic is lighter than a teg. 2360 is about right for the 5th gen civics, give or take like 60-80 pounds depending on hb, sedan, or coupe.

This "civic manual" told me that:
http://www.televar.com/~soxen/92-95-helms.pdf
go to page 3-14
The Sedan is supposed to weigh "3200 to 3490 pounds"
That's why I was asking.

That is refering to the vehicles "gross vehicle weight." This is is maxium load bearing weight you should place on the vehcile, i.e, it should not weight more than that, when you are your passenger's and cargo are in it. In other words, this is the max weight you should place on the vehicle, curn weight, passengers, and cargo, etc included...i.e, total weight. The civic's weight as you want, is refered to as it's "curb weight", the weight the vehicle weights. This is different from gross vehicler weight, in that it tells the cars total weight. Gross weight is, as stated earlier, the "total max weight" you should place on the vehicle (curb weight + any addtional weight, like cargo or passenger). YOu don't want that weight to be above the gross weight, so if the curb weight (the car's weight) is 2300 lbs, and the vehicle has a gross vehilce weight of 3300, it's not a good idea to put 200 lbs of cargo in the trunk, and 4 200 lbs passengers plus a 200 lbs driver int he car. It's more than the gross weight. I hope I made sense, I think I explained this very confusing. Basically, you are corcerned with the car's curb weight, you aren't interested in the gross weight. Curb weight = about 2300 lbs

Don't feel bad, that is the first I heard what Gross vehicle weight meant. I once drove my civic with about 900 poiunds of cargo and passengers.
It was sluggish, but really clung to the road. I was taking curves like I never had before.
So what happens if you exceed the gross vehicle weight?

Hey I dont actually know if its my shocks (stock) but when I sit 4 people in my car (almost any weight) my front left wheel rubs like a mother when I make right turns. Could be sharp turns or BARELY even turning! I could be going slow as hell about 15 and slowly turn and it rubs... especially on U turns. The lightest load I think was
me = 190 lbs
my girlfriend = 160 lbs
my sister = 140 lbs
sisters friend = 90 lbs (skinny mofo!)
thats about 580 pounds added to my car. too much?
and just with them in the car the car RUBSSSSSSS like a mother fucker! not only that but I have STOCK suspension with 13" wheels! are my shocks bad or what? do shocks ever have to be replaced with age?

Yea, shocks eventually need to be replaced with age. I am guessing you have a blown or worn shock. Does the car tend to bounce several times on the re-bound after going over a bump or through a dip in the road? It shouldn't really do more than one bounce. If it does 2 or 3, you have a worn shock. If it sags to begin with when lookign at it, maybe the springs too. But you have like a 5th gen 4 door, right? Those are the stock 13's with tires. It shouldn't rub like that. Pay attention to how many times it bounces (re0bounds) after going through a dip, etc. It shouldn't be more than one. Still, I never had my shocks rub like that with 3 people in the car. My guess is the shocks are worn/blown. I just don't sound like it's the springs. Though like I said, if that poart of the car sags, that could be a problerm too. Still, shocks do were with age, are your car is around 10 years old. My guess is it's blown/worn shocks.
Also, mtdxx, from what I understand, if you exceed the gross vehicle weight too much/too long it could harm your suspension.

I did 600 miles from tennessee to michigan, with about 800 pounds in the car.  Braking distance almost doubled on the highway.

imagine the stress, wear and HEAT that is generated at such high speeds with 800 lbs of stuff? I would think the brakes would litteraly turn red. I wonder what would happen if I had 1,000 lbs of cargo and going 115 and then suddenly stop fast. I remember once going 85 and doing a sudden stop with my gf in the car and all of the sudden my brakes got spongy and barely held the car still at a red light then it smelled BAD and smoke was coming outa my brakes... normal braking resumed after it cooled

Yea, Brake fade....gotta love it :p Now, a nice set of slotted big brakes with 4 piston calpiers will help solve that issue.

Yep, but that's why I usually just shifted down when I had to break.
