I think the TL Type-S would be more appropriate because everything on that list has a v6, except the TSX.
Volvo S60R ~
The S60R is about $36k, in the same price range as something like the G35 and BMW 330.

The CTS is crap, as is the LS- one is a shockingly ugly work of metal and the other is a badly rebadged S Type- the S Type is much improved since its facelift- but still crap- besides- the X Type is better suited to this comparison.
The TSX is nice- but it is also our Honda Accord- which makes it a rip-off IMHO
The IS300 is excellent- but not as good as it's IS200 counterpart
Fourth is the C Class- Impressive- but overpriced and under-equipped
Third the Audi- IF it has Quattro- but it's still a VW Passat
Second is the G35- Very fast, good dynamics, well equipped and good tranny- but still ugly
The 330i is the champ- everything the G35 is but more fine-tuned dynamics and better looking
The S60 and Saab 9-3 are also wild cards- but not as good as the C Class, A4, G35 or 3-series

How is the C-class impressive but the CTS is crap? The CTS looks better, performs better, has better build quality, is more reliable, and all for the same, or cheaper price. Oh yeah, the LS is a better deal as well.

Opinion, wrong, wrong, wrong and decideably true- firstly the CTS like all GM product is chealy built, with Walmart-grade plastics and reeks of cost cutting quite frankly. The Reliability is UNCLEAR for the CTS this stage- it has NOT been out over three years- unlike the C Class- which has proved to be extremely reliable- according to Britains JD Power Survery- that's good enough for me- I have plenty of mates with Mercs- all extremely happy with quality and reliability- one guy I know has done over 700,000km's on his E300 Turbo diesel with only regular maintence (Pads, oil, filters etc.) needing to be done. Cadillacs are a subjext of ridicule over here- in the late 90's they tried to challenge the E class and 5-series with the badly built, painfully slow (For a V8) oversized and ugly STS- you can just see where that went- the CTS is getting similar ridicule- still nowhere near the Germans. The C320 is also a much better car to drive than the CTS- I have driven both- the CTS is a good enough drive but a C class is still better and more refined- to add insult to injury. An looks are subjective- but most find the CTS ugly, boxy and bland- which it is- the C Class has a much more exciting design theme IMHO. And the LS is absolutely shambolic- it's an ugly S Type- with a few Luxury features thrown in to appeal to 70 year old ex-Navy Colnels- no thanks!!!!! I'm not old enough to drive a Lincoln

Who said I was bashing Mercedes? They're one of my favorite car companies. And I happen to be a technician for them too. That being said, I can tell you the C320 is no where near the quality of a CTS. The older C-class (W202) was very reliable and were worth the money. But if you pay over $30,000 for the new 203 that is underpowered, has taillight bulbs going out all the time, no interior space, and has an A/C system that smells like shit after 10,000 miles you're an idiot.

eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr..................Sorry to break this to you- but the CTS is also lacking in interior space as well- especially in the back- and this is a car designed for obese extravagent people!!!!! (Oh the shame!) Tail-bulbs blowing affects nearly every car- whether it be a Honda, Cadillac or Peugeot- especially mass-produced ones- usually due to putting an old bulb that got mixed up with newer ones- and smelly air conditioning????? Clearly doesn't happen to all Mercs- I've rented endless amounts of C180's- none have ever had smelly air-conditioning- must have something to do with where you live.

No- where did you hear that????? Audi's are probably the most reliable of the German brands (after Porsche) the A2, A3, A4, A6, A8 and TT have been well proven over this side of the Atlantic. Beleive what you like- but the fact remains- you can buy a Merc with confidence it'll offer reliable motoring. Definitely a fact from my experience- Factory workers, Technicians, experiences, owners and Reliability surveys tell me just that- so why believe any different????? I spose I need not mention that Mercs are taxi's in Germany- that should put out any doubt on Merc reliability

We've had a good dozen Mercs in the family and i can vouch for their reliability. Each one - and i mean EACH ONE - has provided years of reliable motoring, including our current E. Mercs are built to last. While the interior quality has dipped, and customer service is a joke, mechanical reliability has been of the highest order. Oh, and my cuz has the current-gen C class, it has more than 10,000 miles on it (about twice that) and the aircon doesnt smell of anything.. i dont know what the "technician" is talking about. Like Jimster said, Mercs are used as taxis all over Europe because their high price will be more than offset by their incredible durability. A guy i know works for Benz and assures me how reliable they are. And he's not trying to sell me one, ive told him before im not interested.

wTF???????? A C320 costs $30,000!!!!!! god- US$30,000 over here wouldn't even get you into a C180- an A-class maybe- but no way a C320! Daum! Still I guess my pick would be a 330i, followed by an IS300 (If you can get it in manual), then an A4 3.0 Quattro, C320 Elegance, Acura TSX (Why pay all that money for a Honda AccordEuro (Even if it is a damn good rep-box), I would consider an S Type 3.0 -they are classy rides- but not as good as my other choices
The LS is the worst (Easily) those things are so damn ugly! and probably dynamically worse than everything else as well.
What is a Cadillac CTS?????

Using that logic I could say Ford's are reliable becuase Taxi services and law inforcement all use them over here.

I guess Mercedes Benz must be lying when they put out a SERVICE BULLETIN stating that most C-classes will be coming in with a "musty odor" complaint coming from the A/C system upon start-up. Then, sure enough, 70% of C-classes that come in have a musty odor from the A/C system. Also, you Europeans also need some reading comprehension classes because I never said anything about Mercedes being unreliable. I criticized certain aspecs of the car but I never said they wouldn't hold up for 2-300,000 miles.

It all depends on what kind of needs you have. Do you just want a car to transport your kids to school and to soccer practises? A car to just get from A-B, or a car you can have a lot of fun with?
I would personally choose the new Saab 9-3 Sports Sedan or Volvo S60R. Both are gorgeous to look at, and heaven to drive. Then comes A4, and so the C-class. The reason C-class only comes in fourth is because it is chronically overpriced, and you don't really get a load of kit. The C320 costs $85 000 here! It's an exceptional smooth ride, but it's not very sporty. There's more personality in the first two cars, the saab and volvo. The Acura and Lincoln: I wouldn't even be bothered!
And by the way: The S-type? This is a whoole other category, maby you meant the X-type? The S-type competes with the 5-series, E-class etc.

You said the CTS was more reliable than the C, the older C-class was v reliable, but not one reference to the reliability of the new C-Class. So I said Mercs i've "Known" have been very reliable, including the my cousin's new C, which has a non-smelly AC.

And for this:
You said the CTS was more reliable than the C, the older C-class was v reliable, but not one reference to the reliability of the new C-Class.
Let me respond to that with a quote of mine earlier:
The older C-class (W202) was very reliable and were worth the money.
This sentence implies that the new 203 isn't reliable. Enough of this bickering crap. Here's my vote:
