I bought an '83 Ford Futura for $400 (it ran, what can I say?). I'm basically using it to get around point A - point B until get my SS. The thing is, I haven't ever seen/heard of them, nor are they on the Ford forums here in AF.

The Futura is a Ford Fairmont. When the Fairmont was introduced in 1978, the Futura was the sport coupe body style. At some point in the early 1980s (I forget the exact year), the entire line took the look of the front of the Futura and I believe took the name.

I'l post some pics ASAP to those that don't know the look...its somewhat like a short Lincoln, but with a god-aweful color that makes it look like the classic drug dealing-mobile. I'm just trying to think whether its worth putting money into, to make a damn good sleeper (probably not though...)

Ahh, that's right, I forgot about this thread. I'll post pics up tomarrow, its dark out and no one would see anything. But as for that...wow, what a difference! Of course the one I bought is an older model, but dang, talk about difference. I'll get the pics up first thing tomarrow so you can compare yourself...just remember my car's name: "Ghettomobile"

Isn't the Futura coming back to take the place of the Taurus in the next few years?

I'd read that there was a limited-production conversion of these old Futuras into what one might call a Ranchero-style truck, cutting into the body above and behind the "targa bar"; I've even seen one on eBay, it looks kinda neat.

Get out your cutting torch!
