I posted a thread at the BMW section and would really like the Audi drivers opinions, trying to keep things equal.

Thread for Audi vs BMW (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t127075.html)

Thanks------

Thats a hard question but i pick the S4
One of my best friends has a M3 and i have driven it alot and it is seriously the sickest thing ever...............I havent driven an S4 but but I still pick it over the M3 but its a close call.

For pure fun, I would take an M3 but if I could only have one car, and it would be a daily driver the S4 would get the vote.

hmmmm....

i'd say the S4, since my grandfather had an A4 and it was quite impressive...although its VERY close...M3 looks more agressive, but....n e ways i'd prolly go with the S4, its more rare, more BHP, its an Audi, and...well...it'd be a tough decision.... :)

well... depends on what you want... i own a 92 S4 and my best friend has a 96 M3, his car is a little faster, but not much... and my car has a lot more room and comfort options, plus its a sedan... overall, id have to go with the S4

my dad has a 2001 S4 and he loves it, especially snow driving. test drove a 2004 S4 with him, and it was amazing. my friends father has a 2002 M3 and a Mini Cooper S, and he uses the Mini as his daily highway and city driver, cause he says its more fun to drive. The S4 does 0-60 in 5.0, the M3 4.8. The S4 has equal skidpad and slalom numbers, plus its got a better interior, 4 doors, a better ride, and quattro for snow or rain driving. exterior styling is a personal choice, but i like svelte looks of the S4 over the radical M3. However, the S4 has heavier steering. All the M3 has over it is slightly better acceleration and lighter steering. I'd go with the S4.

Besides, how does BMW make u pay $50,000+ for the M3 and stick u with standard cloth seats?

:dunno:

Thats a hard question. Both are quite simular in performance. S4 can have the all-wheel-drive, and the M3 is pretty smooth on twisty roads at high speeds. M3 has the coupe style (what i prefer), and the S4 is a sedan. I guess i would go with the M3....

if you buy a new E46 m3, they dont stick you with standard cloth seats, you get LEATHER. I don't even think you can get cloth seats with an m3 :screwy:

Hi,

I have a 96 s6 and have owned two heavily modified 3-series over the years, lots of other bmw's in the family including an original m5 and 745 (german version turbo).

i drive the s6 in moscow, rf, so lots of snow and ice, and i think this is where the audi shines brightest. in adverse driving conditions there is NO replacement for a quattro (that i have driven).

spinning four wheel drifts on ice and snow on country roads are amazing.

the audi has back seats.

so, what do you want and where will you drive it?

if its just a sports care to bang around town in, with no cares for weather, kids in the back, etc., then the competition is close, and maybe in favor of the bmw.

if not, then the audi would be my choice. actually, if you've got the dough, go with the s6 or the rs4. more money, but some of the best cars built today....

If you give 98% to s4, dont you give 2% to the m3? if you gave it .2% you would still have another 1.8% :greddy2: :screwy:

aight listen up fellas... my bro's got an M3, it's got a pure sports car feel like they were meant to... i myself have an A4 because i'd go wild with mods with the S version... Audi's seem to be meant for luxury and comfort, the power is there for some fun on the side... as far as mods go, the BMW can still be quite reliable because its NA while the S4's and 1.8t's start raising boost and u end up with blown motors and wrecks... not tryin to bash on fellow Audi drivers, but its all in preference... drive both, and pick how u like ur sports car to feel: stiff, comfortable, whatever.... and always remember, its a SPORTS CAR

ummmm M3, losers. Though the S4 rocks... ya see... the M3 is a REAL sports car. Not to mention that audi drivers are pr*cks.

although the new S4's are V8 beasts, the 04 E46 M3 is still faster than the S4. They did 1/4 miles and 0-60, and even though the M3 is a 6 cylinder 3.2L 333hp, and the 04 S4 is a 4.2L V8 with 345hp. I would personally pick the E46 M3, coz I love BMW's better than Audi's, but dont get me wrong, the S4's are very very nice cars, but cannot compare in handling and control for a M3.

Hey guys Audi will beat any car!!

I was just wondering if anyone has had good or bad expirences buying cars off ebay like me?
I got the Audi A6 2000 before Xmas and I'm very satisfied with my new toy.
It's pretty much flawless inside and outside from what i can tell
Has anyone or does anyone know someone who bought a car on ebay also?

The 04 S4 is a faster track car especially on a wet day. The M3 is a faster straight line car. The 04 M3 is more fun to drive. The S4 has 4 doors and the 04 M3 only has 2. The trunk in the s4 is alittle bigger then in the 04 M3. The M3 is a I-6 and the S4 is a V8. The M3 takes less gas and is RWD, S4 is AWD and takes a decent amount of gas. You can drive the S4 easier in winter but not much easier then the M3. Its a tough descion, personally I would take the M3 its more fun to drive and has the ///M exhaust note that I love, the RASP. I think M3 is more for the younger crowd of people and the S4 is for the older crowd of people. I have driven the M3 a few times and been in one many times, the M3 when you press the gas in pushes you back into your seat, it feels powerful. In first gear its hard to hold the steering wheel, I love the G forces in the M3. The S4 I havent driven I imagine it doesnt have that same heart pumping force (g-force) in first gear because its AWD. Most RWD cars pin you in your seat but the M3 pins you hard.

i would have to go with the S4(assuming we are talking about the new one...)

it might not be as fast (if you are looking at 'pure' numbers) but it is more effortless in execution, mainly down to the fact that it spanks the M3 in terms of torque.

i stick my neck by saying that the guys who pick the M3 do so because of its looks.
in my opinion, that's where it is let down.
i mean, it's a nice looking car but it screams 'look at me!'
personally, i much prefer the sedate, almost invisible nature of the S4 (hmm, fancy shiny wing mirrors, funny sills on the doors.....).

if you like, the S4 is almost the 'anti-M3'.
it does everything the M3 can do, but with a sense of easiness and relaxation.
it is about stealth.

if i had to pick between a M3 and a S4 i would have to go with the S4.
you know what?
i think it would have to be the avant.

can't get more 'Anti-M3' than an estate with 300+lb/ft....

I love both cars equally and both have aspects that are better then each other. On a track the new s4 is faster then the m3, it is AWD and sticks to the road like crazy glue, m3 on the other hand oversteers (and understeers too) on almost all turns on the track. m3 though is faster in a straight line then the s4 and the m3 has a higher top speed (without the governor). The s4 because of its AWD-quattro system it handles like a dream and there is no chance of losing control. Personally living in canada i'd take the s4 for all seasons for a summer car without question id take a m3. M3 is a more fun car to drive, not that s4 isnt but when you drift an m3 you'll know what i mean. I havent driven the new s4 ive seen it a few times. Ive driven the new m3 many times and I can say that car is purely a sports car that is both fun to drive and very fast. And as for people liking the s4 sleeper look, well you guys are pretty funny, the m3 doesnt stick out either unless you know cars you wont be able to pick out a m3 from a 330ci visibily. Most people will look at a m3 and go thats an ordinary 3-series. The s4 is like the m3 in that it looks like a regular a4 but with nicer rims/bodykit. The only extra that the m3 has over the s4 is the side vent, so they both are sleepers and you cant argue otherwise. Under the flesh of both cars they are completely different from there lower end models, an m3 is no way like a regular 3-series, and an s4 is nothing like an a4, just they look alike. The s4 and the m3 are both the same price so they get a tie in this area. But y compare an m3 with a s4 in the end they are completely different an awd car doesnt compare with a rwd car. Now for a real comparison why dont you compare an s4 to a wrx sti. In this case the wrx sti I would be able to say id take over the s4 any day. The wrx sti is both cheaper and faster. The wrx sti is alot cheaper then an s4 in canada its about 25,000$ cheaper.

S4 and Sti are not really comparable because their intections are not the same (just cos they're both 4wd doesn't mean anything)
one is based/derived from a rally machine.
the other is based/derived from a a small executive saloon.

that is why M3/S4 comparison works;
their intentions are the same
and the way they do things are similar (i.e amazing naturally aspirated engines...)

s4 and m3's intentions are the same but there completely different in the way they drive. Wrx you are right isn't the same as the s4 but they drive very similar its not only about the goal its also about the experience.

close call, i have an m3, but love the s4, lots of power in both. The s4 is a little more comfortable I think, but the m3 is really fast. Two very similar cars, and i'm not strong one way or the other.

There Is Nothing Like The New M3's. I Have Drove One And It Was The Best Thing I Everd Rove. I Love The Way It Handles And Performs. But I Also Love The S4. Very Very Nice Car.

The S4 has it for me. I dont think that either of these cars would, or do benefit from being "like a sports car". To me, a sports car is somthing like an S2000, an elise or a Boxter. M3's and S4's are just tuned up, hunkered down saloon cars.

For that reason, the M3 seems a little to harsh. If I want a car with a manual gate gearbox, and suspension that is as forgiving as Simon Cowell, then I would go the whole 9 yards and get a proper sports car. The S4 comes into its own, for track day lovers like myself, because I can use it every day, Its practical, comfortable, easy to drive, safe, descreet, but handels brilliantly, and is still devestatingly fast. If my budget were such that an S4 or an M3 were a choice, the S4 it would be.

It has to be said, I do live to that philosophy. I decided to buy a Merc S600 as aposed to the S65 AMG, because I wanted a user friendly cruiser with some real punch if i wanted it. I've still got all the comfort and opulence of Mercedes, with the performance of a 55 AMG. I saved the 65 AMG option for my weekend sports car, the SL. It makes so much more sense to me.

I would suggest S4. It may be a little slower but it has awd and it is more practical and is not on the slow side either. S4 all the way.

the new m3 wit hthe v8 is exactly same engine as the mt6 v8 s4 so its preety much what ever one looks better to you
