Which way?

I didn't hook up my last system, but this one is all done by me. I've got the amp hooked up and working. I had the speakers in, but they aren't as loud as what it was in the showroom. I had the speakers run + to + and - to - for both left and right. It's alright like that, but I know there's a way to get more out of it. Someone told me Bridging the system would make it louder. To do it, do I connect the Right + to Left - at the speakers, then do the same at the amp? Could someone explain this? The speakers are MTX Road Thunder 10s and the Amp is just a MTX 202. Any help is appriciated!

ok are these the exact same parts you heard before?
now theres a bit of information is needed about your setup for any detailed help. first is a bit more detailed list of parts involved and how they are connected. such as i have X deck and im running composite cables to X amp and from there to # of speekers which are X" and rated for X watts RMS
bridging them MAY make them louder but its essentialy making it a mono system and mono just sucks.

i have a Jensen 40x4 deck (not sure of the model...was in the truck when I bought it) and im running RCA cables (also already there when I bought it, along with the blue remote sumthin line) to a MTX202 (50x2/200x1 I believe) amp and from there to 2 MTX Road Thunder subs which are 10" and rated for 200 watts RMS. I'm running 10 gauge wire for the power line, ground, and between the amp and speakers.
That help any?

mono and stereo bass are the same though if you are talking about a subwoofer setup

Well, unless that amplifier supports 2 ohm mono, then you can't bridge it most likely, also we need to know if the subs are SVC or DVC and each subs ohm impedence

ok well hes hooking up subs i didnt catch that first time through then mono would be acceptable. i have to say i think its your amp. if it runs 200x1 which is probably the max not the RMS and your running two subs that want to be 200W RMS a piece then your only sending them 50W a piece which isnt that much for a subwoffer. i would sugest looking into a stronger amp find something that can put down 150 x 2 RMS at the ohm rating you have or a mono that will run 300x1 at 4 ohms. if you can provide us with the ohm rating of your subs wed be more than hapy to help you pick a sufficiant amplifier.

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder202.cfm That's the amp and stats.
http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/roadThunder.cfm That's the Sub and it's stats. I have the 10" version.
Maybe that can help some more, cause I'm not too educated in the area. I can run wires and hook it up, but all these stats confuse me like hell :dunno:
oh yeah. thanks again for trying to help me
Another edit: The reason I'm thinking there's a way to make these louder with what I have is because I heard it preform much better in the showroom at curcuit city and thought I'd get the same results in my truck, but it's just not happening. I figured that the reason I'm not getting the same results is because I don't have them bridged and Curcuit City may have.

ok your only pushing 35W a piece to those subs. although going in series your going to be running an 8ohm load if my understanding of ohms is correct. you wont realy gain anything there beacouse double the ohms still halfs the 4ohm bridged rating. goahead and try it out but i realy dont think that its going to matter. you need to find a 2 chan amp that can drop 100W @ 4 ohm but definatly dont do anything untill someone else verifys what i just said.
id recomend a lanzar amp if your going for low cost such as this one
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=lanvibe238&store=&rpc=4047&catid=306
this particular amplifier will put 200W rms @ 4 ohm to each of those subs which is there rating so it wont blow them and they will be able to generate a full punch for you.

I'm going to try and deal with what I have for now. I'm about to go out of a job on Weds (seasonal help) and then will start my EMT classes, so money is going to be tight in the next couple of months. I'll get there, but right now, I'm gonna start saving change and try to bridge the ones I have. Do I bridge the speakers at the box and the amp? And thanks for your help!

yes if your going to bridge try both in series and paralell and see if it makes a diffrence. series is plus from amp to plus of speeker 1 neg of speeker one to plus of speekers two and neg of speeker 2 to neg of amp. parallel is spliting the plus out to the plus of both subs and spliting the neg line to the neg of both subs.

alright. before I start cutting more wire off my spool (running low), I drew it out to make sure I'm thinking right. I'll probably try both ways, but parallel looks like it'll take a lot of wire. Are these right?

I think series is either 8 ohm or just something is different then what you did

I haven't even hooked it up like the two diagrams yet. I have positive to positive and negative to negative for each sub. Could someone tell me if what I've drawn is right? If it's wrong, could you explain why? I'm just trying to pick up some knowledge before I start changing things around.

http://ccs.exl.info/frame_installation.html I found this page with diagrams on it. Since my amp is two channel, do I hook both positives together at the subs (and same with the neg), or do I just use one side?

those diagrams are basically right, except do not hook anything up to the inside + and - on the amp. On your series drawing just get rid of that little 2" wire going from the + to the - on the amp. On your parallel drawing get rid of both - and both + wires coming from those inside 2 terminals on the amp. Gimme a sec and I'll draw up new ones
