new GTO 0-60 should be faster

The new GTO is supposed to have the same horse as a corvette coupe (350hp) but it does 0-60 in mid 5 seconds but the vette does it in mid 4 seconds. They should of just made the interior of the GTO out of cheaper stuff and fixed up what ever is keeping the GTO down like the trans or back end because I say it should be closer to the vette in 0-60 times to a full second. Although the base msrp for the GTO is only going to be $32000 and the vette is $44000 and the GTO is a 4 seater.

Power to weight ratio. Estimates are that the GTO will tip the scales
at 3600lbs. The Z is right at 3118 and coupe/vert at 3250. The base
coupe mirrors the numbers that the GTO will have...350hp/365lbs-tq
vs 350hp/375lbs-tq for the current 03' C5.
Also...keep in mind that the Corvette is celebrating 50 years and the
C6 or really C5.5 will be debuted in January of 04' and on-sale by
August 04'. It's Chevy's AND GM's 'Halo' car. Bob Lutz and the rest
aren't going to let Pontiac one-up the Corvette...not on paper atleast.
Off the record they might like some of the last f-body SS and WS6's
seemed higher in HP #'s than what they said. Again, the Camaro and
Firebird/Trans Am isn't going to tread on the Corvette brand name.
They even do it to thier own. When the 96' Grand Sports and other
optioned out LT4 cars were underrated at 330hp. Most say they were
right at 350. Problem. The ALL-NEW 5th generation C5 is comming
out with that new motor, the LS1 rated at 345. Well, obviously you
can't have the last year model being rated at higher numbers than the
all-new model can ya...? No
Politics can play big part in WHY a car is 'de-tuned' to some degree.

Don't judge what this car is going to do until it comes out. GM might just be being modest about how fast it really is. I agree however though that it shouldn't be as fancy as it is. There is too much junk in it that isn't necessary and its keeping the price up. Unlike the Firebird, there won't be a V6 model and I don't think Pontiac is going to make a cheaper V8 model (Think Firebird Formula) of the GTO either. That in itself could probably give this GTO a short lifespan.
Its a dual exhaust LS1 though and the 05 model will have hood scoops, so get em while you can :smokin:

Well you gotta remember to Ponitac has always had more bells ans whistles than Chevy ( firebirds vs camaros) (chevelles vs GTO's)
Thats prolly why the decided with the GTO instead of the chevelle, more refined just as much ummmph.

The new gto tips the scales at 3750. Couple that with an IRS which makes a heavy vehicle more difficult to launch and you have your 0-60.

vlad no offense but tou have some reading and riding or driving to do if you think the pontiacs of yesteryears had as much "umph" as the chevys of yesteryears maybe fancier but pontiac never built raw horsepower like chevy did although very torquey suckers

Yea, its deffinatly the weight difference.. The GTO is much heavier than the vett.. I argee that it will not last long also... So what do u guys think it does in the quarter? i betting it does low 14's with an average driver and high 13's with an experienced one.. My number one reason i like the new GTO is, i finally have a new GM car to spank with my cobra considering they don't make F-bodies anymore.

I turned 13.3@104 stock. SLP turned 13.1@107 Stock. HPP got a 6 speed to run 13.5@105.
BTW I hope you know Your Mustang cobra at 13.4 is nothing to brag about. Any one of my cars will eat it for lunch anyday of the week.

btw i hope you know that my mustang Cobra will eat your GTO any day of the week.. only reason my times aren't faster is because i have bald ass tires.. i just ordered some and i'm looking to run a 12.9... what were your 60' times on that 13.3 run? what mods do you have cause stock GTo's don't run 13.3..

Yeah, considering that the GTO's are putting 29x to the wheels at the dyno's, the same as the LS1 f-bodies did, it is hard to believe they are running any faster than 13.5 at absolute best with a manual. The LS1 f-bodies pulled low 13's (13.1-13.4 was the usual) and that was at a vehicle weight of 3450. The Gto weighs 300 lbs more than them which easily translates into a loss of 3 10ths.

i agree to that.. thats why i know a 13.3 is impossible stock.. i'm willing to bet he has some bolt ons and some slicks or drag radials for sure..
Look at it this way. My cousin has a 2002 Firehawk, which is the faster F-body of the bunch, he managed a best of 13.16 at the track and averaged 13.3.. he has headers,y pipe, and cat back exhaust.. so he's moded and only manageing low 13's.. theres no possible way a stock GTO could go 13.3..
