1993 grand am SE
134,000 km
auto
3.3 V6
recent tranny flush
The problem is:
Engine is very loud until it gets into 2nd gear.
Engine has no power.
Once it gets into 2nd gear it runs fine.
It should be switching gears under 3 RPMS not 4 RPMs ( in other words it takes forever for it to switch)
I stomped the gas pedal hard, this is where problem started
could it be the TPS or vaccum?????
thanks

I think you are looking at a trans problem. You are getting a slip in 1st gear. Considering you just had the trans flush done I would bet on a trans problem.

no, the trans seems to be fine, it shifts perfectly.

Check the tranny oil. Make sure it is full. If you have no power and the tranny shifts at a higher rpm, its a tranny issue. Take it back to wherever you got the tranny service done and get them to look at it. All the best.

the funny thing is, before I got a tranny flush i added a very small amount of tranny fluid and the problem went away. I'm tempted to add some more but what all the results of too much fluid??

Start the car, leave it running in park and check the tranny dip stick. Clean it first and reinsert it and pull it out. With it pointing down, read the level. Is it below the crosscheck? If it is below, add a little fluid at a time and recheck. It should be a little below the the top of the crosscheck.

but wouldn't it be safe to say the level is correct after a flush, or did the morons not put enough fluid in

Make sure your tranny throttle valve cable is adjusted correctly, because if it's not it can cause late shift, early shift and other problems, also check to make sure it's not binding either.

Never assume!! Too much can have the same effect as not enough!!

yeah check the fuilds. it never hurts to check. heck, the second you notice off shifting, or under power. check shit out. (unless u are heading into a head wind :-) ) another point. if u are only missing power in one gear, it is the tranny, I am no expert at transmissions, but I would think too much tran fluid would lead not optimal running and shifting. if u are a little over, I don't think there is a huge problem but u would want to correct it
