Hello everyone, new to the site. I have several questions for you guys, but I'll start with this one. My car makes a strange "humming sound" which comes from the air inlet box. I know that cause I've opened the box and the sound gets louder, looks like if it were originated at the trottle body/intake area. The sound is not present all the time, it comes and go as I drive the car or at idle. My car is a 92 Grand Marquis LS with the 4.6 lt. engine. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

ssxty8,
It has been awhile since you posted this thread so you may have already solved your problem, but I just joined and it so happens had this repair done on my '93 two days ago. You need to get the Idle Air inlet hose replaced. This hose connects to the airbox tube just before the throttle body. I was quoted $15 from the Ford dealership. My mechanic charged me $25 but he installed for me which I would recommend because the back end of the tube plugs into a connection that is between the firewall and the back of the motor. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, in my case, the damaged part was the IAC valve. Replaced myself and problem solved. Thanks again...

In my 92 GMqs, it's located on top of the engine, at the back area of the intake manifold, behind the throtle body ass'y. Kinda tricky to get to it, but can be done at home. Just don't try to unplug it before removing it and be careful while removing the 2 screws, you may loose them. A new motorcraft cost me $30. :cwm27:
