Replacing TAC module on 2005 2500HD

My cruise control stopped working and now only works sporadically. Diagnostic says no communication with TAC module. Everything else works. Truck drives normal. I read that I can replace the TAC module with a used one from the same year truck without having to reprogram it. Is this true? The dealer checked the wiring system and all seemed normal. I did have a grounding issue which affected the ABS and brake system which gave me two warning lights on the dash display that was fixed at the dealer and I drove the truck home and the cruise control worked then drove it again and it stopped working. I took it back to them and they checked it which gave the 'lost communication with TAC module' result but it didn't throw an error code then they wanted to charge me $600 for a new TAC module that included reprogramming. I told them no I don't think so. I bought a used one for $60 online. The truck operates normally with no loss of power or reduced performance that would normally happen with a TAC module failure. is it possible the communication failure just affects the cruise and not the rest of the system? I'm told the system has a redundant backup which allows the throttle body to work. The used TAC I bought is from the same model and year truck. I'm told since it is there should be no problem reinstalling without reprogramming. I read that I need to disconnect the ground wire from the battery before I change it out.

That sounds correct.

UPDATE!...
I installed the used TAC I bought and it works perfectly.
If you try to fix using a used TAC make sure it's from the same year and model so it's plug n play with no reprogramming.
