Hello,
I have a 2016 4runner SR5 v6. It has 17k miles on it. Recently I found that when I drive at a constant speed the rpm surges from 1500 up to 3000 for no reason and then goes back to normal after several seconds. I noticed this last saturday, usually when I drive at 40-50 mph.
Any opinion on this is appreciated!
Thank you!

I'd start by checking to see if any OBD-II error codes have been set.
Even if the CEL light isn't on a code may have been set that may help diagnose your problem.

Try to clean the MAF sensor also.

NOT A COMMON PROBLEM THAT YOU HAVE...
I have the same runner you have 2016 SR5..
I on forums every day TOYOTA 4RUNNERS ,, this can be a improper transmission fluid issue could be a leak causing this. bring to dealership it is under warranty.
