1999-2007 Ford F250 6.8L V10 Alternator Replacement
Tools:
1/2in Breaker Bar or Belt Tool
10mm socket
3in Extension
Flat Head
Problem:
Failed Alternator; You may experience dead battery, not staying running after jump, charging system fault light.
Repair:
Assuming you have checked and confirmed an alternator is the problem (Voltage Regulator is on the back and there is no alternator fuse) Take your 1/2 inch breaker bar and stick it on the belt tensioner. Remove the belt off of the water pump to release tension to unloop the alternator. Take your flat head and remove all the plugs from the alternator. Taking your 10mm with extension remove the positive connection. Behind the alternator you will find a 10mm bolt remove that. Under the alternator near the water pump you will find the remaining two bolts to remove the alternator. Re assembly goes top bolt first then the bottom on the alternator and reloop the alternator on the belt then slide the belt with the tensioner released back on the water pump.
