I am getting an FTO soonish, and I was wondering what mods actually work with an N/A car like the FTO? I have seen in several places people talking of exhausts, filters and such, which after being installed had not improved the cars performance in any way. Since I'm under 25 insurance for a turbo car is just not affordable, but I would still like to mod the FTO abit. Can anyone help me???

Basically your looking for top brand makes to make a differance. if you buy cheap air filters and exhausts then your not going to get the desired performance.
What FTO are you looking at? The higher range FTO's go well without modification, the lower spec ones are still good runners but not half as close to speed wise.
Try get a manual! they are rare i know but hold out for one...u wont regreat it if your the modifying type.

What I'm asking is more specific, as in what exhaust would be best? A'PEXi N1. HKS SUper Drager etc.
Also in regards to engine management, what ecus have different people used and how good were they? I'm looking at Power FC, GReddy E-Manage & Mines VR-X, has anyone used these?
Also who makes cams for the 6A12 engine? HKS don't seem to have any :frown:
PS thanks for actually replying!

Yes it is a quite corner of the AF forums empire, but we do answer in time.
I have a owned a FTO for 4.5 years now and found that you don't get a massive increase from 1 upgrade but every little helps.
Yes and Airfilter will increase BHP upto 8.5 BHP for a HKS one
and exhausts help I would get a local specialist to fabricate you one. that way they will, get the look, noise and setup you want. Make sure it's all stainless steel. Decatting is also a great idea.
The mods to my FTO can be seen here

My wife had an FTO GPX. We got a Trust Airinx pod filter, and a 2 1/2" exhaust done at a local shop (not brand name/off the shelf, but a damn good exhaust shop), and it definitely made a marked difference. We didn't get before/after dyno figures, but the seat-of-the-pants meter said it was quite a bit quicker. Bizarrely, it also used a lot less fuel :D Gotta be happy with that combo. :D

The biggest thing though, is to run it on the highest octane fuel you can. When we had to put in 96 octane, the poor thing used at least half again as much fuel, and was gutless in comparison to the 98 we usually used.

In summary: service fully (I thought I'd add that in :p ), 2 1/2" exhaust, pos filter (for the roar, if nothing else :D :D :D ) and run on high octane petrol, and it's a sweeet little car. Enjoy.
