Owner opinions on Mazda 3 6-spd manual

I would like real world opinions on the Mazda 3 Hatchback with a 6-spd manual. I want a sporty hatchback with a stick, and have narrowed my choices to the Mazda 3 (doesn't necessarily have to be a sport with a turbo either), Golf GTI and Hyundai Veloster. Any help in making this decision, positive or negative regarding your ownership of a 3 would be greatly appreciated.
