2003 Tahoe Flex not idling except in park ...Pump pressure is 42....have replaced fuel filter, Had an o2 sensor code and have replaced upstream o2 sensor , (now no code). The specs for the fuel pump pressure that I have seen if I think 45 - 55 ...one parts store said their comp says 60 ..
If the car runs fine except for idle, could the fuel pump be a problem?

fuel pressure should be V8 engines 53 psi -62 psi.......

42 psi is too low. below 50 psi it may start if warm out .

KOEO 60-62 psi... engine on with a flex around 52psi ... V8 engine.

idle issues with no codes also can be a bad/dirty TB/IAC along with the 42 psi. never use flex fuel stay away from those high alcohol fuels ... too much damage to fuel system on these OLD GM trucks ....

a regular 87 octane V8 5.3L is 57 psi normal engine on pressure...

Thanks for your information, after doing everything I knew to do except replace fuel pump (air filter, fuel filter o2 sensor, plugs and plug wires), I decided to take it to a recommended shop for another opinion...They said right away that it sounded like it may be the throttle body needing to be cleaned, and the fuel pump may be a possibility. I left it and expected a call that it was a fuel pump problem...but the call was about cleaning the throttle body...cost: $41. I know I will be dealing with the fuel pump down the road but maybe it will last till I replace the Tahoe in a few months. Thanks again for your input.

good you had it fixed cheaply. the TB does need cleaning some times. I use top tier fuels like shell./mobil/exxon etc . these fuel suppliers add their cleaning agents that the auto manufacturers claim to keep these components clean longer . even Costco uses these top tier cleaning agents.

I would also recommend adding 2-3 OZ of Marvel Mystery Oil ... MMO keeps the fuel system clean and free from the alcohol damage to metal. lubes the injectors so they work faster and will help on MPG...

1 OZ per 10 gallons is all that is required no more. like anything too much is not better ! walmart has it for about $3.80 QT..

good to post back your results good luck .
