Just purchased a 2012 Equinox 4 cylinder fwd., and so far is only getting about 24 mpg on the average, mostly highway miles. going to take a trip in 2 wks. I'll see what I'll get then. Disappointed, was expecting at least 28-30. I didn't think it would get 32 like the ads read, but it should get better than 24. Anybody else getting poor mpg on your Equinox?

Hi Randy,

Congrats on your recent purchase, but we do apologize for the disappointment in the fuel economy at this time. Please do check out http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ for more information and tips on fuel economy on all vehicles. It may come in handy!

There is a big difference between highway mileage, and local stop/gp drving with this vehicle.......it is a HEAVY vehicle......

Try two different things.......

First, when you get on the highway and are up to speed, have your avg mpg data showing in the DIC........now hold the reset button until it goes to zero and release........while driving on the highway, this will give you your true highway mpg.......now when you get off the highway, note the mpg.......as you drive locally, and in stop/go traffic, hills, etc., you will see that mpg start to drop, in some cases dramatically.....

To get an idea of how local driving affects your mileage, reset the mpg by hitting the reset button, and just drive locally, and do no highway driving......this will give you an idea of the mpg you get from local driving....

How you drive does affect your mileage.......there is a difference of 3-4 MPG, between my driving and my wife's driving, when we go the same route......she didn't believe it......had to do it 3X's to finally convince her....she likes to be close to other cars and is constantly hitting here brakes......and she like jack rabbit starts.....

You'll probably never see 28 MPG during the winter in Illinois. There's just too much going against you. Colder air means more fuel is needed to meet stoich. If you let your car sit and warm up, you're taking a hit there. If your area uses a winter formula fuel, you're taking another hit there too.

Also, I never go by the reading in the DIC. In our Equinox it is usually off by +/- 1-2 mpg. It's best to manually calculate your mileage when you fuel up (miles traveled since last full fill-up divided by gallons required to fill the tank up). As long as you fill your tank the same way (i.e. stop filling the tank after the nozzle automatically shuts off twice) every time, this method of calculation is most accurate.

many things effect MPG. the load the vehicle is carrying does effect 4 cyl MPG more so than a V8. also use of E85 fuels compared to 87 octane.
air pressure in tires use air gauge make sure you have good proper pressure.

with a 4 cyl if your used to an 8cyl you maybe heavy on the throttle. work the throttle lightly. drive with a steady pressure. some have problems with that so use cruise control.

keeping a safe distance reduces the need of throttle movement.
GM and others lie about the MPG ratings. they say the max MPG in a lab condition not on the real road. some have just recently been fined by the feds over these false claims of MPG ...

I would expect more than 24 MPG .... my 2000 Silverado just got 18 MPG on my trip down south . 160K miles on it V8 engine 4WD.87octane..

keep the speed down its only a 4 banger no 70 plus mph ....

looks like most with your vehicle get 26 MPG....so 24 is too low..

Well I'd like to hear more on that. I rented several Equinox in the past years and never got more than 24 mpg...that is, imperial gallon (12 litres/100km)..which translates to near 20 miles/US gallon. I agree most of that was in winter....Quebec winter.....but I still feel that as quite low mpg
