Hi everybody,

After I finished the Alfa Romeo I started a new project.
This time I chose a motorcycle, a 2006 Kawasaki ZX-RR motogp bike.
It took a while before I started posting this project because I wanted to get a head start on this one.

Oke, now its time for the pics.
Let me know what you think about it.

The first pics are for the boxart and his content.

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YJVLUCHO.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-HZP4Q7AV.jpg

I also want to use a lot of extras, bolts, chain and a lot of PE and other stuff.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JFVJZ4XP.jpg

I got some pics from evilduse as a reference for my build.
Evilduse, thanks a lot !!!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-EPCILEF8.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PBO6GCL4.jpg

When I ordered the kit I forgot to order the green paint from Zero-paint.
Now I'll have to use a spray can from Tamiya for this build.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DELQ3TVO.jpg

These were the first pictures from the start of this project next time more pictures.
I will use the reference pictures to try to make a perfect model, but I will have to modify some small things which I don't like.
You'll see those in a next update

Wow, looks like you're in for a very detailed build!
I have this kit in the stash also, so will be watching with interest.
Great reference shots too! Bravo! Marco

I concur with Mark, looks like a stunning build....I also have one in the stash, so look forward to the build.
Shame about the TS can, but never mind....

Hi,

I've been working on the bike for three months now but it's going slow.
I wanted to get a head start on this one because all the extras take a lot of time to do it right.
I'm not easily pleased and want to do it 100%
Within a few days I'll post a new update with more pics.

Hi everybody,

A little bit earlier than expected but I can show you the first real update

I started with the frame.
There is a mounting bracket for the fairing but It's not the same as the one on the kit.
See the original photo below

bracket on the kit:
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-MNOEYDAK.jpg

bracket on the real bike:
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-HWMCNOLU.jpg

made new brackets...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-GCPFVGCF.jpg

And modified the frame
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-FYJGXNT3.jpg

gone!!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ADLJQLSY.jpg

Finished the frame and painted it with Zero-paints, semi-gloss black, TS-29
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-N4VVNDJZ.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DG7CDOVK.jpg

I will mount the brackets when the bike is completely done and the fairings are painted.
Now the frame is ready I will add some extras.

On the original photo you'll see a blue transponder.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BJOKSOXY.jpg

I'll make this one together with the black square box what's also on the frame.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-C8BAV4LQ.jpg

I'll make this one from scratch

Final result.
There's also a PE part for the blue transponder.
I only have to paint it
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-HCE6BMM3.jpg

And there's a PE part for the rear axle.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YNK8VTMM.jpg

I applied some carbon decals on the front and clear coated it
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-FNHC4NAP.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ILMQN6NL.jpg

On the front there are a lot of sensor, wires and other hich tech stuff.
I wanted to make a few for a more realistic look.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JDDHAN4K.jpg

...made from old plastic...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JXGFGMLU.jpg

...drilled a hole...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-VFVM47PY.jpg

...and mounted the sensor.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-6HFLHZKE.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CRURZU6L.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KVX7NM8K.jpg

Then made the red sensor...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-77YL7JCL.jpg

He is very small.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-4PWDFMIL.jpg

Modified the red ECU.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-C8BDUS3O.jpg

On the kits ECU there's a small bracket on it.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8EGC64KB.jpg

This one has to go
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-IP4PGTVS.jpg

...I'll make a new bracket from a old inner tube of a bicycle...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-AO6DFOTH.jpg

...cut off a little piece, and primerd the ECU
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-3VGXQZLT.jpg

...and placed two rivets in the strip.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-4KNCNLX8.jpg

...glued the strip on to the bike...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-LRO8AALQ.jpg

...and mounted the ECU...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DGTX8S7R.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-F8CE8I7G.jpg

...all I have to do is connect the wires and this one is ready.

Done!!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-E6PUUVAU.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KVXWL7Y7.jpg

The final sensor to make...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-V38SXBAX.jpg

and looks like this...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-VUVG7SHH.jpg

This is what the frame looks right now, also painted the rear brake cylinder.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-6RE43KHI.jpg

This is all folks for now
Next time: the ENGINE.

Agree! Beautiful micro-work!... Did you get the complete Top Studio
super detail-up kit? It has many resin parts, PE,and a very complex wiring diagram in it. If not, you might want to look at their instructions to give you ideas.
Your WIP will be very useful when I start mine... Marco

Hi Marco,

No I don't have the complete Top studio super detail-up kit.
Maybe I should have.
Do you have the wiring diagram?
Thanks for the compliment! I'll do my best to get the best result

Hi everybody,

It's time for the second update.
I've been busy lately so had little time to place this update.
This time I'll show the engine and I began on the exhaust system.

ENGINE
I started by drilling a lot of small 0.019685in holes because I want to use real bolts.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-Q4VBF74L.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-S78TLYNU.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KJR6GOJB.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-IN4EJMMY.jpg

I will add a piece of clear tube for the oil level so the original piece had to go.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KSOWLTKD.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DMBMXGDO.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KPQNNBOT.jpg

After te prep work it was time to put the engine together and to add some color.
This is the result.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BVTGYONV.jpg

Added the oil cooler
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-NPQK8YW3.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ECR3VJLA.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8CJ3EGE7.jpg

The oil pan will get another color
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JSG7SSRL.jpg

Done!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DBVATQCQ.jpg

Started on the left side with adding some small parts.
That PE stuff is really fragile!!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8DTYNQYM.jpg

The valve cover is ready after painting and adding some really small bolts.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-QIG4DHJG.jpg
Sorry, the valve cover is '' Magnesium '' NOT '' Dark Magnesium '' !!

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-L87UNHYW.jpg

Then I began on the right side
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-THT64KYN.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-LCCEWOGI.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-H8ZLPD8Q.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-4ULLMEMA.jpg

For the clutch I used the example to get the right color
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YY6W4QQN.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CEV37FLU.jpg

This is the end result.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-4WLOI7NY.jpg

Now it's time to mount the engine into the frame
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-NLHVRTZT.jpg

And the last two pics for now are with a mounted clutch.

Hi everybody,

Hereby a small update.
This is the first part of the exhaust system.
I'll show a few modification I had to make.
In a next update I'll show you the discoloration of the exhaust system.

The exhaust is pretty basic
There are no lamdasonde or exhaust flanges in this kit so I'll have to make them myself.
I'll also add some muffler springs.

I will add four extras things
I orderd the muffler springs, the rest will be hand made.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-HNZU8PFW.jpg

I'll try to duplicate the lambdasonde as best as I can
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-4BGQFFRB.jpg

These are all the parts in the kit.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-R4TCZA8I.jpg

Only orderd the springs.
sorry no picture.

Let's begin...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-A3FYWC3U.jpg

When the pipes were ready I started to make the extra things.
I use some styreen for the flanges.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YTH7YGJI.jpg

the base is done.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-6PWDHZBW.jpg

a dryfit...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ZFXTV68B.jpg

...then I marked the spot for the holes.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-X8HYDTPF.jpg

...done...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DJTDRRQJ.jpg

and ofcourse another dryfit.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-RMF8H3IK.jpg

complete exhaust system.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-RT6GVBKB.jpg

Now that part 1 is ready I also want to add a few bolts.
M6 metric in this case.
Took off the flanges and drilled some 0,5 mm (0,0197 inch) holes.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CFFTJMVA.jpg

There was no room for mistakes so I'm very happy I didn't screw up.

With the bolts mounted.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-IIKCXOYC.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-7A48M3KJ.jpg

The next thing was to paint the exhaustpipes.

The first layer was a grey primer followed by a gloss black layer.|
The final layer will be a chrome one from Alclad2, this layer will be the base for the discoloration.

Grey primer...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YD44QQGQ.jpg

...then gloss black...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CI3B78XX.jpg

...and finally a nice chrome layer.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-3U6YE7HG.jpg

When the was dry I also drilled out the holes for the lambdasonde and did some masking for the discoloration.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-C4B8C3D4.jpg

For now this is it.
Next time I'll show you the discoloration on the exhaust and I show the making of the lambdasonde and finished the exhaustsystem.

Untill next time

Perfect !!!

MarcoMoto
12-05-2014, 11:21 AM
Beautiful! Be careful, because the holes for the lambdasonde are swept 45 degrees
rearward, so the fairing will not interfere. I hope you can create this, the molded ones
are almost always on the side, as on the M1's. Can't wait to see more! Marco

REALLY nice work! I personally like these detailing builds that is made from the builders attention to the details rather than fitting a full detail kit. The detail kits are of course amazing but it seems hard to fit the cowlings when all of the set is used. The way you are doing it is perhaps not a 100 % accurate but the details really adds to the build and makes it stand out from the OOB build.
Again, really nice!

Hi everybody,

I'm sorry it took so long but finally had some time to place this update.
This will be the second update about the exhaust system.
I'll show the discoloration of the exhaustsystem.
For me it's the first time so the result is not 100% acurate be I'm fine with the result.

EXHAUSTSYSTEM PART 2.
Before I started on the exhaust I made the lambdasonde.
As a example I used a real one.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Grotefoto-8LQQAIOU.jpg

As a core I wanted to use styreen but that was to fragile.
The copper rod was to thick,
In the end I found out that a paperclip had the correct size so I used that for a core.
After I did some measurements I started with making a nut...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-KEBAA7VU.jpg

...and mounted this onto the core and finished the rest of the sonde.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto360-84BJQLD7.jpg

One lambdasonde is ready, not 100% realistic but okay for me.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-3G7CLIZA.jpg

When the lambdasonde were done I started on the exhaust.

First applied a layer of color on the chrome...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-VR4WQZA8.jpg

… followed by a layer of clear blue...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-SRSYISBA.jpg

...and a layer clear red.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-D64OKHZV.jpg

Removed the tape and this is the result.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-VIVGET6H.jpg

I wanted a dull look so I sprayed a layer of Alclad flat clear coat.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-BVZCI8HE.jpg

Mounted the flanges on the the exhaust and then onto the bike.
I've used some purple for more discoloration.
Didn't turn out like I wanted.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-8AZNHEMI.jpg

Mounted some muffler springs.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-ZHE844SS.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-GVEUTDTS.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-L8LHW4MD.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-ZWUZTZEX.jpg

...and painted the muffler spring hooks
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-YKAY74VB.jpg

Fitted the right side exhaust and the PE logo's.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-SJ8DCNIF.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-JZIG6NKC.jpg

FRONT FORK

When the exhaust was ready I started with the front fork set.
Together with the stand applied a primer coat.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-NKYOMNMJ.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto540-VPSEKIA4.jpg

For now this is all.
More front fork in a next update
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think about it.

IMO you didn't really nail the discoloration on the pipes but it is not bad, perhaps a little dark with the red. Springs are a great detail and really adds to the build!

I agree on this. I think the flatt coat didn't do it justice. I suggest that you use semi gloss for a more dull effect instead of the matt coat.

For the rest, very nice build. Keep up the work. :iceslolan

Neither I would bother, bring out that Duc :-) I saw a Panigale superbike decal kit on ebay and fell in love but it was priced at a steep 40 € and wit other alterations to be made (forks, brakes, tyres) I killed that thought :-) But a tuned street Panigale will be on my desk sometime!

You're doing great! Yes, the exhaust can be a surprise when you remove the masking.. Sometimes if the colors are too intense, I dust over it with the original base metallic color to dull and blend it a little. Took me 3-4 exhaust builds to get this right, Lol! Watching as always, keep going!... Marco

Hi everybody,

Hereby my fifth update.
This build is going well and it's almost a bike now.

The next item is the front fork

FRONT FORK.

After I primerd the parts I used Candy Liquid Bronze from Zero-Paints.
Because Candy is transparant I had to spray a silver metallic coat first.
Then I applied three layers of Candy.
Every layer made it a little bit darker, maybe two layers were better.

See for yourself..

All parts seperate:
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-UGURCEMT.jpg

Mounted the forks.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TAQO4NY3.jpg

For the innerforks I've use BMF goldfoil.

Bare innerfork.

BMF goldfoil:

Final result...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-NMUV8RXY.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-RWO6E7TL.jpg

After the front fork it was time to finish the handlebars.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TMVRLTHV.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-P4EKUGJO.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-T6ZQMUPB.jpg

When the handlebars were mounted I put these away and began with the radiator.
I'll finish the handlebars completly when the radiator is mounted.

Put the radiator together and painted it flat aluminium.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-EKRGTIRY.jpg

Atfer painting fitted some PE stuff
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-V8DYHOGK.jpg

And finally assembled to the frame.

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-IOWVCC3Y.jpg

Nice detail, that blue waterhose.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-463FZCR7.jpg

Radiator is done so I can begin with finishing the handlebars

First some throttlecables.
I use this set from Topstudio.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JTHASUCE.jpg

Because the cables had a iron core I had to use a rubber hose to hold them togehter.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PUJCQGFY.jpg

First one done...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-MLGMRUEZ.jpg

...second one done.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JTQLZFWZ.jpg

Final result front end.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BI4OBTUY.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-NSBADIDW.jpg

When the front was done I and began with the rear swingarm, fender and suspension.

The first thing I did was putting the rear swingarm together, applied some primer and finished it with a few layers of paint.
Then placing decals and a final layer of clear coat.
And of course mounted the rear fender.

Swingarm done..
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TJTFT7WM.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-GBWWQLJQ.jpg

Next thing , the suspension.
The spring in the kit was black so I had to make this yellow first.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-VQEJ6QBX.jpg

Swingarm with suspension.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-EHEN3FC7.jpg

Now this parts was done I began with the front fender and the airbox.

Had some troubles with the clear coat on the front fender.
A small part reacted with the clear part.
It turned out okay though.

Hi everybody,

Hereby my sixth update.
I'm sorry it took so long but I had some problems with the pictures.
I lost a memory card with some pictures on it.
I can only show you the beginning of the progress and the chain mounted on the bike.
Because I have not many pictures of the chain I decided to make a bigger update.
I'll show you the chain, finished the front and rear wheel, and you can see the status of the bike right now.

CHAIN

I've used a Topstudio kit.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TYBCHZAP.jpg
The set looks good with a few bags of very, very small pieces, a manual and the front and rear sprockets.

The scale is 1:12 and thats really, really small !!

Before you can begin assembly the chain you first have to make a bracket

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-WLISFMFM.jpg
You need a chain of approx 10 inches, and every piece you make is about 1,5 inch long.
It took my about one hour to make 1 piece.

Like I said, I had some problems.

When I was dry fitting the front sprocket it got stuck, couldn't remove it anymore!!
Because I didn't want to risk damaging the bike itself I decided to leave it like that.
Mounting the chain though wasn't so easy.

Because I lost a memory card I can't show you anymore right now.
Later on you can see the final result.

When I was making the chain I also made the rear brake disc. This comes in 5 pieces.

Final result...

When the chain was done I began with the wheels.

WHEELS

REAR WHEEL

I started making a hole for the air valve...

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JGPWKJ76.jpg

...and did a dry fit.

After making the holes for the air valves I sprayed the wheels gloss black from Zero-Paint,fitted some decals and finished it with some clearcoat also from Zero-Paint.

Mounted the tires and used sanding paper 400.

...they look like this, nice right?

When everything was done it was time for mounting the rear tire, chain, sprocket, brake disc and some small PE stuff...

...final result.

FRONT WHEEL

For the front wheel I wanted to use a PE brake disc set which I had ordered together with the kit. But.. I ordered only 1 set and not 2 sets...
That meant that I had only a brake disc set for one side of the wheel.
So I had to use the original brake discs which came with the kit
Painted the disc gun metal from Tamiya X-10

Front wheel is done.

This model is almost done.
The next thing I have to do are the fairing, tophalf seat etc etc
I'll show all those things in a next update and maybe together with the end result.
The final four pics are from the bike in the current state and two pictures with some reference material.

Hi everybody,

Finally, finally , I'm done with the Kawasaki.
So I will show you the last pictures.
I decided to leave the right fairing part off.
So I can see the engine.

Let me know what you think.
I don't know what my next project will be.
