Here is the 'short version' of my 09 YZR-M1 Lorenzo test bike, the build taking 5 1/2 months and many modifications. Questions and criticism are fine, as I want to learn more about this type of building... Marco

WOW Marco -
I'm really glad I asked if there where any WIP pics - this is fantastic - the carbon decalling is perfect.
Also the attention to detail is unbelievable - the paint - the washes wiring etc
Every bit as good as any bike on the forum you really have skills -

Marco - how do you determine the measurements for the holes to mount the posts that hold the bike in place in the jig??
I see you make a dedicated base for each bike??
Thanks
John

Yes the building base is presently drilled for one bike, but it's constantly evolving. Over the last 1-1/2 years, I've redesigned it 6 times.
I am using a hi-res scan of the side view from the box, scaled to actual size, and drafting software to measure the model, and make a guide for drilling.

Yes JimboCO, Thanks! You can PM me if interested, as I've already made some for other bike builders.. might try an Ebay store for this, if there's enough market demand..

Fantastic work Marco as usual.... the only remark is the centerline of the tank cover.... it's visible under the decal..... but probably I want to find something to say as I'm a little bit envious....

Andrea - I'm not so sure that is the plastic centerline you are seeing but the centerline of the 2 different pieces of carbon decal - If you look close enough you will see that the decal ,lines go out in a 90 degree pattern just like a real carbon tank would have - don't you think??? look at the "completed works" bike.
Marco - what company and part number is the carbon decal you used on this bike?? It looks correct to scale.
Thanks
John

Probably you are right John because if I'm not wrong that piece doesn't come in two halves...
I apologize.....
p.s. someone could tell me because I'm not able to insert smiles? when I pass over them nothing happens to the cursor....

Thanks guys,
Andrea, you have a very good eye! The part was originally in 2 pieces, the carbon seam is exactly on the join line, but it is a small defect, and I am learning! (my 4th build with PE and resin parts)
No need to apologize :-)
John, the CF is from ScaleMotorsport.com.. It is 1/20 scale "Twill weave"
I love this product, and highly recommend it!

Beautiful work! I'm very impressed. I haven't built any Moto stuff for the last two or three years as I have been doing F1, but these WIP's are very inspirational and make me want to put one next in line! I'm learning a lot by looking at the great moto builds on this forum. Keep up the good work.

Thanks safetyfast! It was my first '09 M1, so plenty more to do
in the stash... the CF made the build around twice as difficult.
But I was obsessed... Marco

Nice work. This model'll also build up Lorenzo collections

Thanks Wita! Agree, we need more Lorenzo, (and other) collections...
So I'll have to learn to build much faster!

Although building exclusively bike kits for more than ten years I'm no able to get in to my head how to do these full carbon builds. I can't see how to fit one piece all around the rear cowl or over the side cowls with those air inlets. Simply amazing and much respect towards you that make it work!
MarcoMoto

Thanks, Joel! It is not that difficult, and NO PART can be done with just one decal, unless it is nearly flat! The side panels require 5 pieces each, for example..
I wish this forum had Group Builds, because you learn a lot that way. Next time I do a series of carbon parts, I will share my WIP method with all of you.. Marco

Please do so Marco! It would be very nice to see how you do it. But I must add that I've seen builds where side cowls had been done with one piece of cf decal!
