My 2013 Grand Caravan has 55,000 miles and I noticed that it is down about a 1 quart of oil from last oil change which was 3000 miles ago. Is this normal oil burn for this van?

Can't answer that but a dealer will tell you if you're adding a quart every 1000 miles you're in spec. Sad isn't it. Which engine?

Engine oil is fine, my mistake I should have read the dipstick it says check oil when hot. I checked the oil in the morning after it had been sitting overnight and it looked like it was down a quart. After realizing that the oil must be hot, I drove for about 30 minutes, parked on a flat surface and checked the oil after 15 minutes. I checked and rechecked and the oil level was fine, as a matter of fact actually it was slightly over filled.

I have always checked the oil when the engine is cold after sitting overnight and while running after driving it for a while after it has warmed up. The cold reading has no point, I just like to get the reference.

This is the first time I have driven a car that has only a hot calibrated dipstick.
I found this interesting link from car talk. It is worth a read http://www.cartalk.com/content/when-are-you-supposed-check-your-oil-when

"Deep Dipstick" - Good Lord the CIA is everywhere - hilarious.

My 96 GC manual says "The best time to check the oil level is about 5 minutes after a fully warmed engine is shut off, or before starting the vehicle after it has sat overnight". The stick calibration must be a compromise between a hot and a cold engine. Pretty much follows what the article said.
