All right, how about a drifting related topic that doesn't involve drivetrains?

Where do you guys usually like to brake when entering a drift?

I know I start braking gently with a slight feint about 25 to 35 yards from the corner (depending on speed and sharpness of the corner) and smack the brakes to get a bit of lock-up at the rear (to better swing out the tail) at about 5 yards.

Is this common, or do any of you guys have a different technique?

Usually unless I want to show off, I don't touch the brakes - rather I lift off the gas slightly righ before entering the turn, and then completely at the apex. (and this holds true for both my rear engine Subaru and the Toyota - though with the Subaru it is only momentary - because if I leave my foot off, the car WILL go out of control do to the erratic fire of 2-stroke engines at low speeds)

i usually start with a feint, like you do, but braking depends on the sharpness of the corner, speed, and a few other factors. there are some techniques where you don't have to use the brakes as well, but i've only drifted a couple of times and haven't run the full spectrum of techniques yet.

i thought brakin was mostly used to get ready for entering a corner. I kno in some cases u will need them but i dont really use my brakes when in a drift. I only use it to slow down enuff to get around the corner! But thats just me. Im not a pro!

I brake in a straight line before turn turn-in unless I'm doing a braking drift (where the normal braking pattern is thrown out the window). I heel-toe downshift while braking down to to entry speed before the corner. Then depending on the type of drift I'm going to do, I'll turn in and go from there. If I'm doing a braking drift then I'll start braking later than normal and continue to brake through turn-in. Once the drift is initiated I'll get on the throttle again.

I think I break where I need to concerning the previous turn. I never stop the flow. I start it before turn one and continue thru the whole course at a full drift.
