What I can't drift my CIVIC? come on man, I've done it plenty of times! I mean I find an icy parking lot and I cut one of my parking brake cables so only one wheel grips, yo!

While we're at it, FF can't drift, FR, can't drift, RR can't drift - in fact the only car capable of actual driftage is the Reliant Robin - all others are posers.

Shhhhhhhh! you're ruining the satire - anybody can claim anything - but do they have the guts to back it up?

Why don't we start up a thread to reach a definition of drifting?

Personally I encourage anyone getting into drift- but first the Rice-wannabes have to freaking get to know about drifting, what is required, what can and can't drift and a little history of drifting even.

I'm reasonably new to the drift crowd- but after seeing a display by some local boys- I was astounded- I went and picked up my NZPC magazines- Which are higly reccomened for anyone wnating to learn more about drift culture- I had a look at the drifters cars and what they had done to them etc. and I was hooked from that moment:eek:

actually if ur really into drifting then u know that ff can drift...just a different technique......as there are so many techniques for different car set-ups....but hey...what do i know i own a civic:shakehead

don't get me started...

it's not the same. they can ass-drag and throw the ass of their car out for half a second, but it's just not drifting in the real sense of the word.

you see that diagram? see the last frame? see how the FF car has already been straightened out for 2 frames now? by that position in the corner, most FR drifters would just be starting to come out of the drift. they can hold it for so much longer.

I have an honest question. If you don't want to answer it, then don't answer it, but don't you dare reply on this forum just to call me uneducated.

I don't think I really know what drifting is. I'm not asking becase I'm thinking about 'drifting' my 13 year-old accord. Consider it a sport, like basketball, for instance, with participants and spectators. Think about that and then hit me up with a reply.

Would someone kindly enlighten me as to what drifting entials?

dude FWD cannot do a drift.... they can slide their rear end out for a second...... this is not drifting..... this is called loosing traction.....

is braking hard to your car skids driftin? no its also called loosing traction...

if you take a turn too hard on grip style and you understeer a bit is it drifting.... no its called loosing traction......

Drifting is an art of putting together events of loosing traction.... its not just simply getting your rear end out on corners for a second.....

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REALLY DRIFT A FWD CAR.... one simple reason.... the power does not goto the rear wheels..... you need the power to goto the rear wheels to balance out the car and actually move around your rear end in a controllable fashion. anyone who has driven a FWD car and a RWD car and tried to get the rear end out on both type of cars will completely agree with me.

it seems the only people who do not agree with me are people who own fwd cars and thats all they have driven, they don't want to seem left out.(hey i own a fwd car too and I can get my rear end out... but I don't call it drifting because that is just PLAIN DUMB)

AGREED. FWD cannot Drift. I don't care what anyone says, Drift is not putting out the rear of your car for a second around a corner. And all you damn wannabe's go back to the Civic forum because this is a REAL Drift forum not some ass dragging forum for rice lovers. Phew I am glad I got that off my chest. I am just so sick of people claiming their FWD cars can Drift when they don't even know the definition of Drift. Anyway that is all I have to say about the subject because Ike (S13_Iketani) has tried to explain it a million times and he's got nowhere. Anyway lets not reply to these shit threads and start posting threads about proper Drift like D1 etc etc.

Hahaha. I named D1 because it's so damn crazy. Of course there are other great Drift competitions but the best IMO is D1. The control and speed they get is nothing short of amazing. I love checking out the amateur action at Nikko and Ebisu aswell as others. Don't challenge my Drift knowledge as I will flog your ass. I am not getting into the history of Drift as it will take forever. As for respect, I respect Drifting. FWD cars can't Drift therefore I don't respect it. No more on this subject now as it is getting boring.

Let me just add that I respect all performance orientated FWD cars. VTEC Civic's being one of the best for your buck IMO. However I do not respect them as Drifters. I never have and I am not about to start.

I found this on a website stating "Drifting Explained".

What Is Drifting?

Basically, drifting is getting your car sideways down a road. It doesn't sound very hard does it? Sounds a lot like power sliding huh? Well it isn't. It's much more complex. Instead of a drifter causing a drift and then countering to straighten out, he will instead over-counter so his car goes into another drift. That is the reason many drifters do it in the mountains, because there are many sharp turns strung together. So in essence a good drifter has the ability to take five or six opposing turns without having traction at any point in time.

I drive a civic, and by the first line of the paragraph, I can drift. I don't believe this because the second question of the paragraph explains what FWD cars do, they power slide. Powersliding and drifting are two different things. RWD cars drift while FWD cars power slide. In essence, you're all trying to turn sideways through a turn to make it through the turn at a higher speed, and maintain that speed throughout the turn. Again I stress, RWD cars drift, while FWD cars power slide.

Don't know, searched Lycos and picked a site. Why would I get slapped? It's just an opinion and it's exactly what the paragraph states and I agree.

Ryan was raised in iwakuni Japan and has been involved with drifting and "the scene" before imports became popular.

He used to hit up the Mountains at night and go drifting. NO ONE USES A FREAKIN FWD TO DRIFT. WHY? CUZ THEY CANT!

That is what I just said dude. FWD cars powerslide, not drift. If you want to truely drift, then you need a RWD.

BLU CIVIC - this forum was started with the stern intentions of being a D1 Japanese drifting forum, but you and a few others came in here and started saying "oh no, it's a general drifting forum, it's a general drifting forum." IT'S NOT!!! the people who got it started and the majority of the people here are interested in Japanese style drifting. that's what this forum is about. if you want to talk about your "generalized drifting", go get that forum made, because that's not what this place is.

no-one can close this, because we don't seem to have a mod that comes in here on a regular basis, and my power is limited.

as for the "generalized drifting" thing. BLU CIVIC you're taking things way too liberally. just because there's an Indy Car forum, does that mean you can go in there and talk about an Indy Car model or an Indy Car game? no! those would go in their respective forums, the modelling forum and the games forum. likewise, this was started with the intention of being a Japanese Drifting forum, as one didn't exist before. it's a UNIQUE form of motorsport in Japan, where drifting is all you do in order to win. if you want to talk about incorporating drifting into other motorsports, put it in the respective forum of the motorsport being referred to.

i'm not going to be the one to do it, but i sincerely hope someone gets Igor to change the title of this forum or else i don't see myself sticking around here for much longer...

So you want the forum's title changed because you don't want people to write about all aspects of drifting? I have yet to see a problem - unless people keep making one up.
