Mazda RX-7
Honda CRX
Subaru Impreza WRX

I just think it's odd that three different models from three different manufacturers have 'claimed' it at different times... :p

Oh, and as an afterthought, do you think the Mazda RX-8 will also try to lay claim? :D

ive been in the scene the whole time and never heard anyone call a wrx a rex, and around here there are some badass crx's that would easily steal the "rex" name away from the wrx

Boo frickety hoo hoo- any problems on late-model Alfa Romeos are only niggling little issues- however I own a 156 V6- this is easily one of the more reliable viechles in the world- and aside from that it is a post 2002 model-0- the uality of them is far inproved over the old one.- easily more reliable than the RX7- I mean who the hell could possibly be stupid enough to make the seals out of rubber- of all materials!!! Sure the soft steel compound is much better- but the pre-RENESIS rotaries still have design issues after the Seals- why do you think Ford was so skeptical about giving the RENESIS/RX8 the go ahead???

well i heard a WRX being called a REX first, then its the RX-7. and this is the first time that i've seen a CRX called a REX. anyways, i'd say the WRX is called a REX mainly not beucase of its reputation but more of becuase if you tried to pronounce WRX it would sound like REX. and the apex seals on the RX-7 is not made of rubber, they were made of graphite.

The apex seals are made out of high carbon wearable steal.

The fact that there are rubber inserts though- IS the reason for most apex seal problems- I've seen it far too many times before. And even then seal issues are only start of the ongoing list of flaws possesed by the 13B

First off, if anyone knows what I know about the Wankel they would have the right to be arrogant.

Seems kinda weird that I do not ever recall taking apart a dead Wankel which failed directly due to a rubber side seal issue... go ahead start a list of all the so called flaws of the 13B. Then factor in the hours of engineering that has gone into it reletive to the hours used in creating the piston engine...

I am not here to fight or put up with the repugnance of ignorant people (not saying you are or are being either). Moreover I am sick of these people and their further ignorance for the Wankel..

Just wait until the OX2 becomes more readily availible...

I don't think that even NSU used rubber apex seals (nor did Sachs I believe) - so why would Mazda? I thought Mazda used aluminum/carbon apex seals? (at least on the Cosmo they did) Unless you are talking about the side seals, in which case I believe that they used rubber.
So the Apex seals have always been metal (after all rubber would be stupid here, you don't see engines with rubber piston rings do you?)

I have never been ignorant of how a rotary works- you could never live in New Zealand without hearing "Rotary this and Rotary that" I have just never devoted much more time than what I have to in reading up on the finer points of the Roatry.

My experience was only further soured by a certain over heated 20B JC Cosmo- I would have pulled it apart and studied it properly had I not left NZ soon after aquiring it- but as far as priroities go I still give most of my time to the conventional Piston engine- I don't see myself buying anything rotary powered in the future either- as the RX7 is too cramped for me and the Cosmo is too rare. the RENESIS is also supposed to have sorted out many of the previous Wankels design flaws as well- and perhaps over time I'll show more interest in RENESIS- but until then I'm sticking to what I know best.

It should be the RX-7 because the X stands for experimental. Therefore, the E is already there.

Ignorant moron? uh, the Subaru Rex was out in 1972, and well the RX-7 was still a ways off. The Rex was first, and it actually is the Rex, the rest aren't. Unfortunately, there is no bubble for the Rex on the poll...
But those wacky RX-7s, gotta love a sports car with plaid interior, I actually have the issue of Car Graphic that introduces the RX-7! (which is also from the year I believe that the Rex switched to a 550cc engine)
