Tamiya Suzuki RG250 Walter Wolf

Hello. I am a new guy here and this is my first post. I have just recently gotten back into the hobby after about a 20 year absence. I built a few kits as a kid. A car, tank and a Starwars ship. I was all over the place. I was re-introduced into the hobby by a great builder at my work who builds cars. This is my third kit since giving the hobby another try. Im still trying to get my paint jobs to lay down properly. I love making bikes and learning the tricks and skills to build great scale models. Here is my first detailed build that turned out well. I started by filling the seams and this bike's rear seat cover was not lining up well. It took multiple trys to get the seam line to match up. It seemed like a well used mold.

For the frame I was gonna to try Alclad aluminum but I had to get a glossy black undercoat. I kinda fumbled my way through the paint and it was a bit textured. 47827

I also started to prime the majority of the pieces that were to be covered in semi gloss black. I tired to group pieces together to speed up the build. 47829

After the main body pieces were sanded and primed again I test fitted the body and the frame together. Very pleased at the progress.

Welcome to the forum very nice start.

There is an alternative method to fill seams, and that is cyanoacrylate glue and cyanoacrylate glue spray accelerator. Check out this video from minute 4:17:

Here is a shot of the grouped parts that were painted matt black. I was really happy with the way this tamiya matt black sprayed from the can. I always seem to get a nice clean layer from this color. 48016

Here is a shot of the painted body pieces. In another shot you can see how the orange peel is really showing on these pieces. I think I need more practice on painting. 48017

I always love getting the tires mounted on the rims. Here is a shot of the finished rims and disks. 48018

Finally you can see another shot of my paint on the fairing that is not really great looking.48019

Oh I also wanted to add that I drilled out those slotted disk which took forever. Since the shape was not a perfect circle I had to drill two holes at the ends of the slots and then connect the holes with an exacto knife. This really helped make the disks look more realistic. Hope you guys like.

Here you can see the problems I was having mastering the fairing paint. A bit of orange peel but I decided to push on and decal.

Engine with carbs and airbox mounted in the frame. Some photoetch added to show the bolts on the engine case.

A shot of the tank and seat sections. Spray painted the seat with the same paint from the rims then sanded down a bit in an attempt to get a vinyl look.

Here is the finished model. Its pretty much box stock with the addition of some phote etched bolt heads. It turned out well and most important thing is that I have learned a lot of lessons for the next build. I hope you enjoyed the pictures. 48815

You made a very nice job of the model, it looks great..!! Did you paint it black intentionally..?? Only reason I ask is that it should be a very dark blue. It looks good though whatever the colour, so well done on a lovely model. What will you build next..??

Steven thank you for the kind words. The pictures make it look darker than it actually is. i painted it with ts55 dark blue. My next model is going to be a Yamaha beluga. One of tamiyas earlier kits.
