Do I need to change the cross member?

I am switching from a 289 to a 302 in my 67 Mustang. The 289 has a rear oil pump. The 302 has a front oil pump. Do I need to change the cross member?

The oil pickup in the block is at the front for both engines. A rear sump pan has an extended pickup tube to reach into the back and get that oil. If you are going to race, the rear pan is preferred since accereration will push the oil to the back. From what I know, both are designed to either go in front of or behind the cross-member. But you should be able to swap pans and pickups if there isn't enough room for the front sump pan. You can also order a new rear sump pan for the 302, complete with pickup tube and dipstick, from speedwaymotors for around $150.
