Built mainly OOB, this is the plain white version of this kit (love this idea, just add the colours of your choice) to which I’ve added the Studio27 “Flying Lizard” IMSA 2009 decals. Painted with Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red and TS-76 Mica Silver, with details picked out by hand. The wheels are the nice FG resin replacements (separate wheel-nuts made painting easy) which unfortunately have slightly the wrong offset at the front, and I used some of Studio27’s p/e for the wing stays, tow hooks, seat belts, body clips and brake disc faces. The front and rear undertray plus the wing end plates and the back of the seat are covered in Scale Motorsport 1/24 carbon fibre which, as usual, laid down perfectly. Brembo caliper decals are Crazy Modeller.

Fujimi have really excelled themselves with this kit. The fit everywhere is perfect, such as the undertrays mating perfectly with the body, and the windows are a good enough fit to click in without glue. The surface detail is really nice, and there are very few sink or release marks. The only minor criticism I would have is with the door inners which are plain as they should be more 3D. Body colour is correct for the door inners for this car, so I just added some door-pulls made out of looped masking tape. The floor has moulded-in wiring which, when picked out with paint, looks quite ok after the body is fitted.

The only thing I found with the excellent decal set is one of the American flags appears to be printed backwards and I may have used it in the wrong place. Loads of options on the sheet more than make up for this.

A quick build with no problems. I’ve got the plain Z4 with some decals on the way and hope it’s up to this standard.

Nice job, some light grey panel lines would bring it to life. Some outdoor pics would be great also.

Great job! I wanted to have a Flying Lizard piece on my shelf but I had read that the decals aren't quite right for the GT3R, but you need an RSR body. How difficult was it to adapt the decals to the Fujimi body? I know it wouldn't be 1:1 accurate, but my skills aren't good enough to warrant only building super accurate subjects. Seeing yours gives me hope when I had just let the idea go.

Thank you for all your comments!

@ MidMazar: Yes out-door photos would be good, but I only finished this on Sunday evening, and took these on my way out of the door for work on Monday! Early sunset + horrible British weather means maybe at the weekend!

@ Seanyb505: Having had a good look at the Flying Lizard website it would seem that this kit is fairly accurate to what they were running in 2009, just a couple of intake details at the front look different. There was no problem with decal fit - the Studio27 set was designed for the Fujimi kit.

Hi,

a Porsche 911GT3R is not a RSR! take a look at the frontbumper and you find many differents!
here is a pic of my RSR in progress:

Decalwork and paint looks OK.

Fair enough! But as a model I think it looks pretty good, and looks great on the shelf!

Great work, looks very nicely done. I think I would have a go at sorting out the front wheel offset issue though, can you not file down the inner mounting part of the wheel using a dremmel type tool? In the past have actually reduced the width of tyres/wheels if necessary to get round this sort of problem too.

This 2009 Flying Lizard is a nicely done piece of kit - for anyone wanting to do the 2011 flying lizards #80 and #81 - Mac at Mac's Modeling will have them available shortly - they are printed by "cartograph" so you know the quality is super good. The price for the decals to do both cars is only $39 usd - which is quite cheap considering the options. I have both the "decaldoc" and "patto's" 2011 flying lizard decals - but I have already ordered a set from Mac - so anyone wanting a set get in touch with Mac or PM me and I will forward you links and contact info -

John
