I believe the 99 SLK was the first model year to have manual transmission standard

You can get an SLK in a manual. I believe it's a pretty damn good transmission too. We don't get too many manual SLK's with tranny problems in our shop.

Would like to prove that with facts or is that just a really dumb statement?

The old SLK manuals were a little stodgy. It was the same manual as in the base spec C - Class. The changes were un-involvong and soft, and the throw was huge too, if its the 1996-2004 SLK, the go for auto/tiptron. The new '04 SLK on the other hand is brilliant. Its the first time I could really say that I'd buy a new mercedes with in a manual. Its a 6 speed, and its so sharp, and crisp. It really adds to the new dynamic drive of the SLK which owes nothing to the C - Class this time around (thank god)!
