1999 S10 ZR2 4wd, 4.3 engine~
Last Sunday the truck was working fine...was doing various farm things...reverse worked fine twice. No unusual noises, behavior, etc. Third time I shifted to reverse and there was nothing~acted like neutral. RPMs were there, but no motion. It was as if someone just flipped a switch and turned it off.
Haven't had any trouble whatsoever with it...all forward gears act normal. Replaced A & B solenoids a few years back.
Transmission fluid is clean and pink and up to level. We don't overuse this truck...it basically gets me to and from work every day and we haul a little wood during the winter, but nothing extreme.
I have had a million suggestions from friends...everything from fuses to a rebuild. I plan on stopping at O'Reilly's to get some trouble codes today.:runaround:
Decided to come here to the experts....any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your time & consideration!

The reverse unit has stripped splines it must come out and apart for for a major repair, common on this trans.

because of the sudden failure and no fwd issues MY guess would be an electrical problem. wires/connectors etc at the tranny.
a drive train code scanner would help you with the problem area.

switch from R to N with your foot off the brake. See if you can get it to start moving. I have had them say it was in R but it was in N

a drive train code scanner would help you with the problem area. There are no electrical controls for reverse, strictly hydraulic/mechanical engagement. When this mentioned component fails all else works but reverse.

I thought a 1999 would have that electrical shift control.
then it could be the shift cable n/g or cable mount /support on transmission bent/loose etc.

as stated ,,,there is no computer control,,,no electrical control,,,,no solenoid control required to make reverse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can totally unplug transmission from all electrical controls,,,,AND you will still have reverse,,,,,,,IF,,,the reverse reaction shell is not stripped/broken......
