I have a 1996 GMC Sanoma 4.3L 4wd Automatic trans. I was driving home from work yesterday when i felt what seemed like a power loss. My RPMs went to approx. 4000 and my speed started to slow. I eventually got pulled over to the side of the road and checked for leaks or any physical signs of trouble, there were none. I was only a few miles from home so I decided to limp my truck home. I have 1st and 2nd gears but when I try to accelerate past 2nd gear its like drive and overdrive have completely disappeared and the RMP shot up. my truck has 158000 mi. and has been well maintained. My ultimate question is do you think the tranny is out or the torque converter is out? The fluid does not and has never smelled burnt. I also have reverse. truck still moves forward and reverse seem to be fine. I can move the gear shifter all the way thru from park to 1st gear and I feel no issues. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hi
I had the same experience with one of my Blazers (95 4.5l vin W 4x4) this spring, and I think it is the tranny.
But I have not had time find out the exact problem yet...
Sorry that I can't help you, but I am interested if you solve it.

If this happened all at once.
It may be a elcctrical/computer problem.
Get it on a transmission capable scanner and get codes and a read out on transmission shifting.
Post back your codes engne or transmission.
