Ok I just received one of these chepo scanners from china and it don't work on my 2002 Silhouette !? Bummer :(

The kicker, my work truck a 2012 Dodge Ram it works perfectly ! Scans in seconds and shows no codes message.

I checked the plug itself on the van wires and plug seem intact. It powers the scanner and the scanner scans but eventually gives a linking error.

The scanner... U480 OBD2 CAN-BUS Scanner Code For GM Ford Toyota Honda

Where to go from here. Wanted to find out what's causing my engine light to come on.

Just did some searching.. Tomorrow I will check pins 4,5 chassi/signal ground, pin 16 12v and where I think my problem might be pin 7 'Kwire" as I did install a after market stereo system.

Any ideas on how to get this 'kwire' working with a Dennon head !? Dose it go through a factory stereo ? If so possible to bypass from loop ??

Thanks
Wayne.

What year is the van?
Check the fuse to the DLC connector.

What are the numbered blocks in the ALDL that have contacts?

#4 chassis ground

#5 signal ground

#16 bat

What other contacts do you have...

Ok I checked the obd2 connector in my 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette..

#2 + 0.50v

#4 ground 0.0v

#5 ground 0.0v

#16 + 11.9v

All other pins are empty

If you only have 4 contacts, and #2 is the fourth, that circuit is Class II serial data.....should not be 0.5 volts.....should be constantly varying between 12 and zero, when communicating, so this can vary between 3-6 volts.....have the vehicle scanned for "U" codes....

My scanner wouldn't connect to a GM and read any code's.. Turned out that cigarette lighter fuse was blown.
