Hi guys, I picked up a 2500 service truck year before last. It's got a 5.9L gas burner in it. The pinion seal was leaking and there was some slop in the yoke. I fixed that, last year with a new seal and we also replaced the front bearing. It's been roaring though as it was when I bought it. It just seems to be getting louder now. I've also been hearing some clicking noises that seem to coming from that area. I bought some Trans-X friction modifier today to add to it because I didn't do it when I topped it off with gear oil when I did the rest. Does anyone know the best way to go on that if it has to be replaced?
I hate buying certain things out of salvage yards, rear ends are one of those things. Is there a place that you can just get the whole carrier complete ready to install. Or is it way more cost effective to just get the whole thing used from a salvage yard?

Here's a downloadable 2001 service manual.
The download is kinda slow but worth the wait.

You might do as well to take it to a shop with the proper tools to set the pinion depth.

Thanks Chris, I put the friction modifier in earlier, topped it off with gear oil and went on a 6 or 7 mile test ride. It was much quieter. It's going to need a long run to get the oil good and hot and then that will tell me more. Thanks again for the download, that has way more info than the Haynes book I bought for it.
