Well I can put a chevy 305 small block together and have it run pretty easily. yet I dont know the names for most of the parts and no idea how to work on anything else then a plain engine. So I was wondering where would be the best place to learn this stuff without going to college for automotive.

Read, read, and read some more. Just don't forget that there is no substitute for hands-on experience. Howstuffworks.com is a good place to start for finding out how everything fits together.

http://aa1car.com/ has some decent info as well.

Also , see if your local community college has an automotive program . These can be quite a bargain cost wise and offer great learning opportunities !
