Honda VFR800 Police - Fujimi 1/12

This is my new build - Honda VFR800 Police Bike mady by Fujimi in 1:12 scale. Nice looking model however Fujimi cut many corners while prepared design of the parts. It has many simplifications like tires moulded with the rims, lack of engine details and frame moulded together with the body.
I decided to build it OOB with minor corrections to get maximum effect with minimum mods.

Dry fitted to access how much effort is ahead of me:

Shock absorber is another story, moulded with a piece of plastic probably to make it stiffer. It will be modified a bit to achieve more real like look.
As you can see Fujimi designed model to make our live and painting harder:

Next step is to prepare parts for priming. I started with sanding and deeped panel lines together with edges of body parts.

Thanks for showing this kit. I saw it on Ebay today and wanted to buy it. But after seeing this I really don't like the model. I mean the vfr is a cool bike but the molded parts are very simplified for such an expensive kit.
Your work look very nice so far. I like the deeped lines, it brings the model to life :)
Kris.

Thanks! Here come more refinments.
Chain guard and swing arm puttied and primed:

I also drilled wholes in the sprocket.

I have also milled swing arm to make it look more like swing arm not a part of the frame. All primed with Tamiya (gray) and Gaia Primer (black)

Started with headlight and windshield. I did some sanding...
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/28.jpg
and it seems that masking lights is going to be a royal pita. Screws are pretty awful so lets get tune them.
Before:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/25.jpg
I prepared my own, litle drill (1.6mm):
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/24.jpg
And after driliing:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/26.jpg
Primed
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/27.jpg
It will help with a wash and I belive screw heads will be more life like. I will drill shallow holes in them to simulate allen type heads.
WHEELS and brakes.
As I mentioned rims are moulded with the tires which is a kind of joke in my opinion. Anyway, I started preparing them to look almost like plastic&rubber.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/29.jpg
Next I engraved line (edge) between rim and tire to make sure that rim edge looks right.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/31.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/32.jpg
I used Trumpeter and and SRC PE line engravers.
I also prepared a stencil to drill rear disk as it is in real:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/33.jpg
Drilled and painted:

Thank you Steve. M.Boy is just teasing me as he did not read my short explanation under the picture. :smooch:
I am trying to do my best to make this kit alive and less toyish.
I have started painting sessions with Gaia 1K clear. So far so good.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/65.jpg
I think it will require only a little polishing with the polishing compound. The rest of the body dries and waiting for further treatment.

the kit is concerning it parts a little bit disapointing, nevertheless you do a great job. Wheels, brakes/discs and exhaust look very convincing

Thank you for your feedback!
I did some painting with Gunze SM Super Silver after dechroming parts:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/66.jpg
I also clear coated with Gaia and polished side covers using Micromesh from 6000 to 12 000 grit than 3M polishing compound.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/69.jpg
I have masked body and painted frame with Gunze SM. One side is pretty OK with minor corrections to be done:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/VFR800_POLICE/67.jpg
Other side got me headache. The trapped dust particle when removed left a dimple. In the end I will have to sand it again and repaint.

Thanks Auw12 but I am afraid you are far too kind in case of this model... Disater hits again - I just destroyed left side decal while masking. I hope that I manage to get a new set of the decals.
I also screwed masking of tankpads... Shame. I think I will not attempt to correct them as I am afraid of other decals destruction under masking tape. They were clearcoated and I sholud have used a stripe of paper under masking tape to protect decals anyway. But I did not...
The life goes on so am I :)

However, this kit.... I cannot imagine the bike kit without engine. The chassis molded with fuel tank, tyres with rims, etc.

Yes, this kit is rather lame...
I did some progress - horns and side protectors (de-chromed and painted with Spazstix).

Headlights masked, painted (Alclad Gun Metal) and glued in place. Satisfied with the result.
I used Alclad instead of semi gloss black as this paint is fast drying and allows to paint at low pressure with still very good coverage. I awanted to avoid leaks and overspray on the reflective part of the headlight.

Here comes the last update. Rear flash light is done together with antenna. Side lockers will be presented in the gallery as soon as I finish their support frame.

Despite of its simple, kit is beautiful. It looks impresive !
I rather don't like bikes, i prefer cars but when I look at this Honda, I think I would liked bikes also.
Very clean work on a basic kit. This red lamps/light and slight decals are complement white-colored body very well. Realy nice bike.

Thanky you! That's right - it looks better than expected. Waiting for the spare decals to complete and post gallery.
