Hello all. Our 1995 Villager runs great, has 181K miles and has no check engine lights. In the summer, I get 25-26 mpg average- mostly highway. It gets very close to 30 mpg (!) on cruise control on the highway @ 55mph in the summer so I am sure the basic tune is good.... BUT in the winter, the mileage tanks.... It only averages 18-20 mpg on the same roads, routes and customer visits... What gives here? Tire pressure is always kept on the high side so this is not the issue here. It always starts and runs seemingly fine. Any ideas on what to look for here? :-) :screwy:

Has the MAF sensor ever been cleaned. Do you warm up the vehicle before driving??? Do you do anything different in the winter??? What is the normal operating temp in the summer and winter???

....Never cleaned the MAF.... We warm it up before driving. The temperature guage always reads cold, even in the summer.

Clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, (should be able to find at any parts store) you can also use a very soft brush but be areful as to not damage the wires. I normally just spray the wires and let dry and reinstall.
Warming up the vehilce will make a difference in mileage. Also if the engiin is running cold it will make a difference, the temp gauge should read in the area of the m in normal, if not install a new thermostat.
