recently my battery or voltage light has come on. I ran the engine and removed the battery cables and the engine kept running, so I assume that means the alternator is okay. I cleaned the battery terminals really well and the light went away. Two days later it's back on and stays on. Any ideas what else I can check?

One of the worst things to do to an alternator is pull the battery cables off while the engine is running. THey are not designed to handle the draw and you can damage the voltage regulating circuits very easily.
Get the battery properly load tested. Nearly any auto parts store can and will do this for free in the hopes of selling you a battery.

Ahh, i did not know that. my wife came home today and said it's gone berzerk, shutting off, lights blinking, losing power. This may explain things I presume?

Well, I wouldn't panic there too much yet, but when the battery gets low the BCM (body control module) can go whacko and cause strange things to happen.

Cool, thanks for the info, I got it towed to my mechanic last night because my wife needs this van asap. I'll post the results when I get them.

The mechanics diagnosis is a shot alternator and a nearly depleted battery.
