Buying a 67 GTO to restore....
Wondering if a pontiac 455 would fit and bolt onto stock mounts and trans.
Are parts for a 455 hard to come by? I'm having a hell of a time finding a block in any condition....
What other models did the 455 come in?

455's were in poenty of Trans Ams and full size Pontiacs from about 71-76 in different states of tune. I believe it will come close to being a bolt in, I am sure there is some more specific online info.

Been gone for a while, health issues...
Yes, a 455 will "bolt right in". 455 blocks have both provisions for mounting ("early" and "late").
Using a 400 block and a "stroker" kit is MUCh more effective, and tougher. The block is the "weak link", not the crank. The 400 has smaller main journals, leaving more material in the bulkheads.
Get Jim Hand's book "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s" and learn about the ol' Injun... It's the most current study of the Pontiac. We've made great "strides" since then, too. Not hard at all to get 600 HP on 93 octane. About the same "money" as a BBC at the same "level". Maybe a little cheaper...
What are your power goals? Purpose of the car?
Jim

Glad to see you back , Jim, hope all is good healthwise. BTW my fellow car club member has a aluminum bellhousing he claims is for 65 Pontiacs, 2 starter mounting positions, what say you?

The dual-starter bellhousing was used on Buick, Olds and Pontiac. The Olds and Pontiac are on the driver's side, Buick on the passenger's.

The 455 was first introduced in 1970 and ran for several years with lowering HP and compression after a few years, there can be a date casting if late 1969 on the Block and it's still consider or came out in a 1970 model Car,the Big Full Size Pontiacs also came out with the 455 engines also and the early engines are more sought after and desirable.
You can even take most older Pontiac heads from around 1968 and up for high compression or use later heads for lower compression and run lower octane pump gas!
