Hi All, I need your help.
I am planning to buy a used Dodge Durango 2004 to 2006 newer is too expensive for me. All I can find are V8 Hemi. I never used a V8 engine and I am afraid It will spend a lot on Gas with this. Can anyone tell me about the V8 Hemi? Is it economic on Gas? A friend told me it shut down some cylinder when no power is needed. If this is thru, above what speed Gas turn back on those cylinders?
I also see some with 4.7l V8 Mpi engine is this one bater?
I will really appreciate all help on this. I will also appreciate any other SUV model advice with at least 6 seats.

Thank you

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ is a website i have used a lot for fuel economy questions. And yes the 5.7 does have the MDS system When you are cruising down the road at a constant speed, the system shuts off half the cylinders to improve fuel economy. The system deactivates when the gas pedal is depressed further. Like to pass someone or going up steep a hill. Usually the transition is smooth enough that most people may not feel it. The 4.7 is just a smaller displacement 8 cylinder motor. I don't think that the 4.7 has the MDS system. They are both a pretty good engine. I would own a vehicle with either engine.

jbchudja,

I have an 01' Durango with the 4.7 liter V-8 and as long as you do all the right things to improve MPG your OK. Keep your engine in tune and make sure the throttle body is clean with a nice new air filter it should return good results. In addition I use synthetic oil of proper weight and measure tire pressure carefully I can get an easy 23.0 MPG!!!!

Since my engine doesn't have MDS I have to trick and squeeze every drop of MPG outta this SUV.
