Make sure the cables running form the battery aren't corroded, even if they look Ok form the outside they can rot from the inside out so the best thing is to check for resistance with a Digital Multimeter, the value you should be looking for has to be ideally 0 but that's nearly impossible so you need a reading the closest as possible to 0...
