I used the search but did not find anything of help.
My 94 tracker 5 sp ignition key will not go into the lock position. The key goes into the ignition easily. Turns on and starts ok. Turns off ok. But is very difficult to get it to go into the lock position so key can be removed. Wiggle, jiggle, cuss and other things it will finally go into the position to remove the key. It seems as if it catches in the acc position not letting it go into the lock and release.
I had new keys made when I got the car. All the new keys had this problem from when they were made. Had several keys made a various places and same problem. So I just used the original key. Never had any troubles with original key for 5 yrs. Recently the problem began. Wiggle for several minutes 3-5 and so far it has come out. Seems as if wiggle time is getting longer. Sooner or later it will finally get screwed up permeantly.
Cost for key and tumblers are about $188.00 Cost for complete ignition switch assembly is about $256.00. None in the junk yards in this area.
I have no ideas on what to do or try. I have never had this problem with any of my cars before.
HEP HEP HEP, whats a guy to do????
If ignition switch needs replaced how do I get it out and apart. I do not have a manual. Any online free manuals that explain this?

Ignition problem solved. Took ignition switch out. Checked phone book and found a locksmith that works on ignition switches. The plunger or whatever that makes the buzzer sound was messed up. Then pins for the key had some wear too. Cut a new key rearranged the pins. I got the new key plus 3 extras. $35.00 total as compared to about $250.00 plus for a new ignition switch.
