2006 Dodge Grand Caravan Wiper Problem

Have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with 72K.
Wipers have been misbehaving. Sometimes when on
High, they do not work. And tonight they would not
Turn off until I restarted the van.
Is it the switch, BCM?

Any of the above and add the Front Control Module (FCM) and the park switch in the motor. They act to gether to control wipers. The FCMs role is to apply the ground to the "wiper on" relay coil when the BCM tells it to. The switch tells the BCM "I want wipers".

A quick fix could be pulling the IOD fuse in the fuse box for 2-3 minutes. This will reset the data bus and BCM. Another option is to diconnect the negative battery cable for 2-3 minutes to kill all power inputs to the BCM. There is a remote chance you can cause other problems with this move. Other than that it's checking connections for corrosion or damaged contacts and testing the park switch. Then you come to the point of decision and the choices aren't cheap.

Is the FCM inside the wiper motor?

No, the FCM is NOT in the wiper motor. The Front Control Module better known as the FCM is a silver box bolted to the front of the Integrated Power Module (IPM) better known as the fuse box. The park switch is in the wiper motor.

Not a problem. We all have our experiences and opinions and frequently they don't match. That's life. Just one problem with your post. You've got the FCM location wrong. monteheeren asked if the FCM was in the wiper motor. You said yes. Got a hunch you didn't read the question clearly.

Replace the wiper motor and still had the same problem.
Noticed while I was testing the wipers would not go on high, even with the new wiper motor. For grins I wiggled the turn signal/light switch and the wipers went on high. So, took the the steering wheel off and the wiper switch out. Cleaned the contacts and re-greased the sliders and so far it is working again. If it fails again, I will put in a new wiper switch.

Thank you to everyone that replied!

I appreciate it.

Argh! One of those "if only I had done this first" stories. Welcome to the club. Most important, you found the problem and took the time to fix the switch instead of replacing it. Congrats!

Save that old wiper motor. There's every chance you'll need it sometime.

I had some of the same problems with my 1997 Dodge Caravan. Wipers not shutting off until restarting the engine, wipers stopping in various locations. It turned out to be 2 dead cells in the battery - low voltage caused the control module to operate improperly. Replaced battery....all is well!
