Driver Side Impact Sensor (Airbag)

My 2002 Lincoln LS has an airbag light on and is showing a code for the driver side impact sensor. Can anyone tell me where this is and whether or not I should attempt to fix it myself or take it to a professional? Also, any important steps to take would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jac Johnson

You might want to check the airbag wire/connector under the driver's side seat, common failure with the seat being moved back and forth fatigues with time.

I don't have 1st gen data, but the 2nd gen has two side impact sensors on each side, one in the B pillar, and one in the C pillar. Both are near or just below carpet level. These tell the airbags to deploy and activate the explosive seat belt retractors. If you are not 100% certain about how to correctly replace them, then you should probably get a dealer to do it.
