04 Envoy issues

I have a 2004 Envoy XL and the car has been a nightmare. I owned this car since it was brand new, has about 60k miles on it. I have a few ongoing issues...if anyone can supply any direction for any of these issues it would be greatly appreciated...

washer pump constantly on. I had to pull the rely in the fuse box or else the washer pump keeps running until it catches fire (yes this happened!). So I currently have no way to wash my windows while driving. So far I have checked all fuses and replaced the relay and no luck. I am thinking it could be a relay on the motor of the wipers (wipers still work fine) or the switch on the lever of the steering wheel...any help appreciated

Dash/instrument lights are out. Just happened recently the lights on my instrument panel and a/c heater controls are out. The fuses looks ok...not sure what else could cause this...very annoying at night. All the service, warning and turn signal lights work fine...just the dimming lights seem to be out (yes I turned the dimming knob to check)

4x4 selector switch no longer switches...stuck in a4wd...

Blower only works up to 3...turning to 4 and 5 has no blower at all...

The dash switch for 4x4 needs to be replaced, the blower relay resistor up under the glove bax is bad, sounds like the dash dimmer switch may be turned off or is bad.

thanks for the reply...are all these easy swaps?

btw the dash dimmer dims the other displays fine...just not the dask lights...can't see speedometer or fuel at night...

Swapped out the 4x4 selector with a new one ($25 on ebay) and that is working. Any ideas on what can be wrong with the dash lights and washer pump?

Check the dash dimmer switch see if you can brighten it up, look for 12v and ground to the washer pump when attempting to operate it.

Dimmer works fine for all the remaining lights...so I would say it isn't the dimmer.

the washer pump has both the 12v and ground attached.

Any other suggestion? I am at a loss.

The washer pump must be bad if you have 12v and ground to it. The dash lite circuit in the cluster could be bad or the plug at the cluster loose.

washer pump is new actually...second one. The problem is it has constant power even when the car is off. I had to remove the relay at the fuse box to stop it...and this means I can't use it. From my understanding there is another relay for the washer pump attached to wiper motor..is this accurate?

Okay after 3 years of passing inspection with the washer pump issue, they finally caught it and said they have to fix to pass the car. Kind of good and bad...but at least it will be fixed...so I thought. The Envoy has been in the shop for 3 days now and they still can't find the issue. They replace the wiper motor, relay, and switch. They said now the washer pump isn't constantly running, but it also won't run on demand...runs inconsistently...WTF! Ho can GMC make such a POS car. Any ideas? The shop is giving up and my next stop is the dealer...and my wallet is already empty.

Sounds to me like the "shop" you took it to just threw parts at it and did not bother with any diagnosis.

They said they diagnosed and couldn't pinpoint it. They put the old parts back in apparently and they did not charge me. I have a appointment with a GMC service center. From my experience with the EnvoyXL and my previous car was a Chevy Blazer both purchased new and both full of electrical issues, I will never buy a GM vehicle again.

If anyone has any advice on how I can diagnose it would be appreciated.

Anyone?

Unless someone posts here that had the exact problem resolved we cannot diagnose this remotely, 3 days in a shop and they couldn't, we certainly would be severely handicapped from here, no?

I thought you had a appt. with a GMC service center. What happened with that?

They have not been responsive...still working on it. I requested an appointment this past Monday and explained the issue and then heard nothing back

To follow-up:

I took the truck to the service center and it ended up being the wiper motor module was shorted. They had to replace the wiper motor, about $400. It's the same issue the previous year (2003) was recalled for...obviously not fixed for 2004 models, yet no recall...pity.

"CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEMS THAT WILL NOT TURN ON, CEASE OPERATION WHILE IN USE, FAIL TO TURN OFF/ON BY THEMSELVES (MOISTURE SENSITIVE WIPER SYSTEM), OR HAVE CONTINUOUS WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP OPERATION BECAUSE THE PRESENCE OF WATER WITHIN THE WIPER MODULES CAN EITHER CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT OR CAN LEAD TO THE CORROSION OF COMPONENTS WITHIN THE MODULE."

For the dashlight LEDs, I ordered a kit to put new LEDs in. I also watch a video which showed how to take the instrument cluster out (which is surprisingly easier than I thought)...so my plan is to replace the burned out lights...kut was $18

For the blower motor, I have to take a closer look, but I need to determine if I need to replace the connector or the resistor myself...luckily this is easy to get to under the glve compartment...I'm not sure how to determine which part needs to be replaces...both run around $30...I'd rather buy one than both ;)

Anyway thanks for the advice all...any further advice is much appreciated

If the plug is not burnt then the connector is ok, the relays were bad in a lot of the TB's
