95 Olds 88 Royale "jerking" during aceleration

My mom has a 95 Olds eighty eight. Car jerks while accelerating. Changed plugs and wires, no help. Took to a mechanic he said the motor mounts are bad. I asked him how would that make the car jerk.... he said during acceleration, the motor turns and since there are bad motor mounts the engine is moving more than it should and is pulling on some electrical mechanisms which is causing a bad connection/loose wiring, etc. Replacing motor mounts tomorrow. We will see if it works. Hope this helps. Any suggestions/comments to this post telling me the motor mount solution is not the problem, it would also be appreciated! Thanks

If this does not fix it then what, are the motor mounts actually bad enough to allow the engine to rotate, I don't think this is the issue.

I looked at the motor mounts and only one of them need to be replaced. Its not soo bad that it allows the engine to rotate and give a thud. After researching threads again, come up with Cat Converter? Knock sensor? magnet in cam sensor? Fuel pump? Does any of these sound like it might be the problem? Thanks Max

Not the cat you would have no power from 40 up, if it is a misfire coils, plugs, wires are the normal culprits, less common a bad injector. Someone needs to road test this to see if it is actually a misfire, tough to tell from here, a full scan may help pin this down also. None of the things you mention can cause a misfire, but jerking is too vague to pin it down.

I have a 93 Olds 88 that does this as well but only when it is really humid or damp outside. I changed the plugs and wires but it still does it. If you apply brakes and attempt to accelerate it will pop and sputter. I am thinking I have some place that is getting moisture and it is messing with the ignition.

when you done a tune up did you change gas filter? and you might try putting sea foam in your gas and it could be a injectors.

I guess I would call mine more of a sputter. It idles fine and as long as you take off slow it is ok but put your foot in it a little and it sputters bad. I haven't driven it for a couple weeks but it has been warm and dry so I thought I would try it today and same symptoms. No better and no worse. I dumped a can of Sea Foam in the gas tank and drove it a few miles. I will try it again tomorrow to see if it helped. No check engine light but could a mechanic scan it or something while it is running to get an idea or do you think they will just start trying new plugs etc.

I have a 1991 Eight-Eight Royale in for the same problem. It's finally thrown a code 41; camshaft reference signal. I've seen these in the past have a broken magnet on the cam gear, and will still for the most part normally.

Replaced a coil pack on my 93 and now it is running like a champ.

This was not recent I assume, as the thread is almost a year old?
