I need to replace my front brake pads on my 1985 BMW Csi. I have replaced brake pads before on other vehicles, but I do not want to begin on this car, until I've sought some advisement. What are the "Do's" and Don't's" I should follow; special brands one might suggest, if any, etc...? Thanks Everyone!

I have worked on the brakes on my 86 635csi a few times. Pagged brake pads are one of the best. I used napa brake pads and I find that they leave a lot of brake dust on my rims. Also I had my rotors warp while the napa pads were on. I changed them to paggeds and haven't had any problems. Just be careful not to strip or tighten the bolts too much that hold the caliper or rotor in. They are allen key bolts and they are 7mm that hold the caliper. I tightened the bolt on the caliper too tight once and the bolt broke. The bolt that holds my rotor in stripped because it was so old and rusted but i beleve it is a 5mm but i am not positive. As for rotors, you aren't supposed to cut bmw rotors. I don't know why but I had mine cut and I have had no problems. Let me know if this helps.
Thanks

Do not forget the wear sensors.
BMW adds them to the L/H front and the R/H rear.
Buy new sensors with the new pads.
Here is a link to some information about the wear sensors.
