hi everyone. I am working on a 94 ciera with 3.1 . it will start and run great then after driving it 15 min or more it wont start. it will sputter. i had an extra module and coil pack so i put it on and it ran fine for a while. now its bad again. it seems to be a yellow spark when it wont start.
i plan on doing fuel pressure test today. but the HOT/COLD thing puzzles me.. thanks in advance for any help..................87Racer

Could be the icm or a bad crank sensor, see if it starts with starting fluid, the spark should be sharp and blue of course.

What DTC codes are coming up?
Ithink your 94 is OBD1 but needs a reader tool to get the 5 diget codes. Some people call this OBD 1 1/2 ! I got the loaner tool from O'Riles to read the codes for my 95.
After you drive it for 15 minutes does it die first then not restart?

A scanner would show if the pcm sees cranking rpms, if not that points to a crank sensor. AZ/ Napa can test the icm but of course this only shows up warm.

YES!
That is a 2 wire sensor! Crankshaft position sensor 3x.

If your going to take the icm in for testing , then would be a good time to also remove the wire going to the sensor to inspect it for burning or melting of its instulation .

Good sight, but most of the time these fail heat related, which this test doesn't account for.
