2001 Suburban blower motor

Hi Guys,

2001 Suburban 5.3 liter. Blower motor (fan) is working intermittently. All 5 points either operate or do not. There is no rhyme or reason that I can see. Today I happened to switch to defrost and the fan came on and all five speeds worked. When I started the car the next time, it did not come on. I've tried all kinds of sequence combinations.

Earlier this year I did change the resistor because for many months I only had 3,4,5 speed working. 1 and 2 were dead. Changing the resistor solved my problem.

Any idea what the problem could be?

1. I tend to think it is not the resistor because all five speeds will work on occasion.

2. Is the switch itself bad (maybe overloaded during the time when the resistor was failing)

3. The switch does activate the "a/c on" indicator light when I turn it to any speed (even though the fan does not come on) so there must be some power/connectivity going to it?

4 If the switch itself is bad, I seem to remember that the whole 3 switch unit needs to be replaced? Does anyone know that for sure?

Thanks in advance for the help

sounds like this is not a fan/blower issue but an ac issue. sometimes the HVac works sometimes not.

the ac control module is usually the problem . look this up on the internet for your part cost . check with the many that had this issue on these forums . very common failure ac control module.
